"I think you have us mixed with some other contractor. We did not work for you. We don't do large drywall repair. we sub that out. we are high end painters."
condo for which I left a review earlier. I then had the floors done and
the flooring contractor messed up some of the freshly painted walls and
did not finish the base molding as promised, so I hired William of Happy
Painting again to touch up the paint and finish the base molding in the
entire condo (three floors). Not only did William do an excellent job
of that, he suggested a work around to fix the horrible and unsafe way
the flooring person had left my stairs with the overlap nosing that was
loose. I hired William to fix the bamboo stairs as well, and now we can
walk on them without hurting our feet or fear or them coming apart. He
added shoe molding for extra support which I really appreciate.
I also found him very trust worthy and gave him the keys to my place for
my own comfort for the duration of the projects, which went on for about
a week. (Also for the week it took to paint the condo initially).
The other thing worth mentioning is the cleanliness. William takes care to
return the place clean after the job is done, properly disposing
everything in trash bags.
Would gladly refer him to anyone.
"Sorry that you did not like the work. As I remember, it was water damaged windows that were in very bad shape to the point of needing to be replaced. They were the type that open like a door with a handle to turn them out. They required sanding, filling, priming for the damage was to the bare wood and rotting in them as well as caulking. You hired a painter for the day. The job was an enormous amount of work even though the it was not a lot of surface area. If it was even possible to do this right, the window would of had to be completely disassembled (and I don't think with the damage they had would of never fit together again). In short , I believe I got the windows to a better state. But no... not like brand new finish. I spent 10 hours (2 hours past than the deal purchased to get them better) But as the saying goes I can not " .... make a silk purse out of a sow's ear..." The only problem I have ever had with customers has been when something is purchased before I have seen the job, because the customer may have not idea of what it takes to prep something for I can actually do my job skill. The job you want is in the thousands of dollars to repair, not in the $200 it was assumed would fix it. I believe time will show you that when you address all the windows in your house. I am sorry the idea of what a coat of paint would do was not real. Windows when damaged are not a painter for the day casual ."
Very professional.
I would definitely use him again.
We initially made contact and setup the job for three rooms including ceilings a month in advance, and Happy committed to Wednesday and Thursday to do the three rooms. They then called us to reschedule to Thursday and Friday which was fine. Prior to arrival we confirmed the schedule and Happy then changed it again saying they would only be there Thursday, and if they need to they would come Friday. While we were initially delighted that the job may be complete in one day we were not prepared for this and did not have all the rooms ready. Happy asked we move everything out and have them ready to paint.
So not the best start but we adjusted and hoped things would get better, unfortunately it was still a slippery slope.
The owner had his team member arrive at 7:30AM or so to tape, and the owner filed in about an hour later. He surveyed our three rooms and said it was too much space and would have to charge more. So I got out the tape and measured, and the three rooms were under the total square footage on the Angie's Deal. So he was concerned they would have to work very late to finish and this undertone of their "not making any money on the deal" permeated the day.
They got to work on the ceilings and started doing edges. His team member was painting color over the newly painted ceiling, which I pointed out. This brought concern to the owner and he had to fix it. Throughout the day where his team member painted the quality was noticeably different. I pointed out a lot of touch up spots and the owner would have to fix them.
They left at 8 PM or so, and it was a long day. While we recovered, we noticed at least a dozen areas that were showing the old paint and had to touch them up. Happy also didn't remove the intake vents and just painted over them while they were on the wall which showed horrible coverage. We removed them and touched them up. Also, while painting over the vents, a hidden stud was painted over behind the vent exposing it. WeI had to go get black paint and hide this stud again.
While I could have called Happy back to rectify these issues, I was more than mildly annoyed at this point and just did it myself. It was a few hours of work no doubt. I wouldn't use happy again given all the concerns we had and chose them due to the stellar rating on Angie's list. It looks like others have had better luck so maybe it was just an unhappy day for Happy.
"[Member name removed] my worker, Dave (who is an apprentice), is a full time student and has classes on Monday and Wednesday. His new class schedule came out after setting up appointment, hence we changed the date. We worked extra hard for you to do it in one day as to not incontinence your family and specifically did your son’s room first so the paint fumes would be less first. My worker is an apprentice and is amazing in work ethic and making sure the home is clean as we found it and usually cleaner. I am proud to have him on my team. Other clients have adored and appreciated him. The Angie’s List deals are basically ½ off and Angie’s List also get a 15% cut as well for the extra advertisement. Realistically it is almost Pro-Bono work done to build client base. My past clients have intuitively known that and were appreciative for what a value they got. And we continued a good relationship after. I can only image that you did not notice what we did for you that was not noticed. Every corner every line that met molding was caulked and up-graded all base molding and door trim was caulked. We did extra drywall repair sanding and priming. Ceiling were rolled out 2 coats and patched. Perfect cut lines, smooth 2 coat walls. Windows caulked on top to weather proof. The rooms were Lime green and Hot pink. (which are problem colors to cover) We did two coats and 2 coats of cutting. If we missed it was not extreme that a C rating would imply. Maybe more of a lighting issue of working late (to get it done in time for you). As Dave told me you asked him 5 or 6 times while in the middle of working hard, “… When will you finish??? “ The part about the stud showing through the cold air return… was the first time I have ever seen a cold air return so off center that a stud is in the middle of a 10 inch vent. That I would have gladly taken care of the next day and of course gotten to the very very small spots of hot pink barely showing through based on light at night, but when we talked about the vent, the response was … from your wife was… ” maybe it will be ok… lets see” So was left as is. I told you my work was guaranteed and would stand by it… Let me know. I can only see a C review as mean spirited. I wish you the best of luck, We did a great job for you minus the light late that night to finish as to return you house to your family."
