Masonry Work, Landscaping
I am submitting this report on behalf of my mother in law. They didn't finish what they said they were going to do. They cut corners to meet their time schedule. I had to constantly stop them and tell them that they couldn't do certain shortcuts that were not what we had agreed upon. They walked off and "finished" but they did not do everything they said they would. were supposed to install drywells, which they didn't. There was leakage in the wall after they left, so there were problems with their drain tile installation. They didn't finish the sodding. They decided to rent the machinery for 4 days, but it took them longer than they thought it would, so they started cutting corners. Before they started the job they parked heavy equipment on my side lawn for a weekend, compacting the soil. After that they kept running heavy machinery over it. They then failed to properly prepare the soil for sodding (they should have put down topsoil). They didn't clean rubbish out before they started building the wall on top of it. The stones were set poorly, with obvious gaps. I called them several times and was promised they'd come out, but they never showed and I've never heard from them since. After I paid them and they said they'd return to put in the dry wells, they didn't come back we had very heavy rain, and the wall leaked, with the water spurting out between the stones. The drain tile was inadequate to take care of it. The excavation behind the wall was inadequate, and when it rained hard the water just poured over the top of the wall because the level of the ground behind it was too high. They had to remove a row around the edge of an existing well-functioning brick patio in order to do the excavation. Instead of resetting it as it had been, because they were pressed for time they just cut the bricks in half, set them on top and put a row of cement around it to hold it in place. This resulted in 3 ft of useless grit between the wall and the patio, which can't grow anything and may lead to more water damage. At their suggestion, I held back $650 til they finished, but apparently they don't mind sacrificing that. They treated me with no consideration.
