Locksmith Service
After discovering that I had locked myself out of my car I googled a local # to get a local locksmith. I dialed (859)394-0342 and placed my service call at approximately 6:30pm. The locksmith arrived at about 8:00pm. He told me that the Yaris has a specialized locking safety system and that it proves to be extraordinarily difficult to unlock when the keys are in the ignition. He was very unprofessional and nothing denoted that he was anything but freelance except for a baseball cap with the logo of his business. It took him approximately 5 minutes to open my car, during which he demonstrated the "tricky" nature of the Yaris re-locking itself when the lock switch is opened. This was of course done when I was not looking in the car and when I asked him to show me again he could not. Upon unlocking my car by rolling the window down he presented me with a bill of $184 - $55service call and $124 unlock charge. He demanded that I either pay him cash or a check. I had neither so I had to ask him to take a credit card. He relented and I paid him. The amount stuck in my head, so, the next day I called no less than 10 other locksmiths that handle lockouts. I confirmed with all of them the make of the car - not one said that it was anything difficult or "tricky" and that the re-locking was a bogus claim. I detailed to all of them the time of day and that although I called a local number I was given a locksmith from across the river in Ohio, so as to include distance to travel for the service. I was given quotes from $50 to $95 in total. This is not a matter of buyer's remorse, and I accept that I made a poor error in judgement by not first getting a quote from the service, and in truth the service was provided as requested. However, the claims made about the car's locking mechanism were false according to the other locksmiths I spoke with and the amount charged was tantamount to highway robbery. I would fully reccomend that any lockservice in the greater Cincinatti/N.KY area that when called gives you a voice recording to press 1 for service and 2 for customer service as this one did (and I discovered more as I called for other locksmiths) that you refrain from using their service for the reasons already mentioned and any locksmiths allied to this service. Further, when I called to speak to someone about this problem I was referred to the "customer service dept." where they said that I would hear from someone concerning disputes and after 48hrs am yet to hear from anyone even after calling back and re-issuing my complaint.
