He supposed to pave the driveway, but after he took 50% deposit, he cashed the check and disappeared. He did not answer the phone nor call back.

DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!! I had a terrible experience working with James and in the end, he didn't even finish the job. He got paid and didn't complete the job. I had to beg him to come work on my job and he wouldn't show up when he promised that he would come. He underestimated the material cost on my rock wall and when he realized he didn't order enough, he forced me to pay the extra cost for another order. After pouring the concrete driveway, he hasn't shown up since to cut it and finish the rest of the job. It's been 10 days since he came to do any work. After several weeks now, the rock wall he built is falling apart and soil is eroding through it. I've had other companies come out to quote to fix it and they all said it was build incorrectly and needs to be dug out. Overall, it was a BIG MISTAKE to hire James and I would not recommend him for any work in the future.
