Great Lakes Chimney

I called for an estimate. Representative was a little hard to understand. Gave an excuse for not doing the work rather then trying to understand what I need. Representative made assumptions about the work. Not even enthusiatic about recieving a call for work.

He came out and looked at 3 chimneys and explained why the chimney in the basement wasn't safe. It turned out to be more than we expected and we had in the course of 2 week s a daughter having a baby and one getting married so we haven't had the work done. But I would say they a punctual and imformative and if they do the job we would be able to use all 3 fireplaces. we are going to have the work done in the next few months.

He did a very good job. He was prompt and everything was fine.

Well Vitto came out and looked at the chimney a quoted $3500 to completely rebuild it which seemed very high. He also offered to just redo the flashing and tar for $100 to fix our water problem as a quick fix but said the whole thing needed a complete rebuild from the roof up. It seemed like he didn't want the job. We ended up getting another company (Best Chimney & Roofing) to rebuild the top half and tuckpoint it for only $900.

Vitto responded the same day with an estimate. Work was done as agreed; one week later - in one day. Job was exactly what I was looking for.

Great Lakes Chimney provided an estimate of $400. Another contractor bid the job at $1,500 (including a new concrete cap). Vitto, the sole proprietor, remortared the bricks and trimmed the sides of the existing concrete cap with a circular saw with a diamond blade. He also remortared the concrete cap. Vitto also offered to spray the bricks with a commercial sealant to prevent water penetration for $200, but I did not have this work done. I did check the price on the sealant and found that it was $150, so the labor portion of the estimate was only $50.
