Carol and Unique Upholstery is fantastic! First of all I got phone quotes and scheduled timing from 5 upholsters. All of who came recommended from friends except Carol. Her credentials all came from Angie's List. I am sure all would have been acceptable but we went with Carol due to my conversation with her on phone, pricing (10-15% better than others) and scheduling (weeks ahead of others).
Her shop was a bit of a drive for us (about 1 hour). Her shop is modest (building in back of a house) and we weren't thrilled with her cloth selection options, so I was a little nervous at first. We ended up finding great material at a cute shop in Milford MI (another long drive) called and quot;Your Nesting Placeand quot;. Carol charged a small cutting fee to use fabric from a different shop, but total cost of chair reupholstery was still significantly below others.
Carol gave us a date for the chairs to be completed and she was done earlier than promised. Weeks before others could deliver. The chairs were perfect. Even with what I would consider a high level of difficulty with tricky arm cuts, full seat, front and back fabric plus additional padding added.
I would not hesitate to use Carol again and will recommend her to others. Well worth the drive. Don't let the location and look of her shop turn you away.

I believe in Serendipity, the gift of finding valuable and agreeable things not sought for. Especially after finding Ma'fee, my
female Akita dog by that method. She is one of the joys of my life. Back to the story. My wife was getting impatient. We did a lot
of talking to relatives and friends about upholstering, no luck. We did the Yellow Pages and made a few calls, not promising.
The living room got finished and the old chair got placed in the hard to fit corner. My wife was not completely happy and Angie's
List was the farthest thought in my head. It never occurred to me that Angie's List would cover upholstering. When I finally check,
there was one listing called, Unique Upholstering and a satisfied customer gave them the highest marks. That very day I called
them in Vassar, Michigan, talked to Carole Shellhas and made an appointment to bring her our chair for an appraisal. The next day
my wife and I loaded the chair into our HHR and did just that. About seven weeks later, we got a call from Carole to tell us the
chair was finished. That day we got to see our new chair, beautifully covered in the fabric of our choice and as sound as the
day my in-laws received it from the furniture store. We highly recommend Unique Upholster to anyone seeking a unique
experience.

Overall went very well.
We had 5 expensive office chairs that were all steel construction and very worn. We looked into replacing them but the manufacturers were longer in business so we had to find someone who could reupholster them. Most firms we contacted either refused the job or did not convince us they could do a quality job. Finally a word of mouth referral led us to Carol Schellhas of Unique Upholstery. Carol has a small workshop behind her home where she and her small staff do all their work.
You contact Carol by phone and explain the job. If she feels her shop can handle it you email pictures to her for a rough estimate. She returns the estimates promptly and you decide if you want her shop to do the work. If yes you will arrange to deliver the items to her. She does not do pickup or delivery. We selected upholstery from catalogs at her shop.
It took about a month to get all five chairs done mainly because we had to do two batches since we couldn't spare tto be without hem all at once. I took three chairs to her in the first batch, then two more when I picked up the first three, and then picked up the last two.
People who have seen the chairs before and after can not believe how good they look. Carol was not able to restore them to like new because of the ravages of time but they are definitely good looking, comfortable and functional again.
