Computer Repair
My computer crashed on me, would start up but wouldn't load anything. On a friends suggestion (because he remembered their catchy commercial jingle) suggested Aardvark. I called around and their evaluation price seemed reasonable. I drove 35 minutes to take my computer in to have it evaluated (a $50 charge). Upon their "free" visual inspection of the computer the service technician noted that it is most likely a virus and in order to restore it they would have to do a "wipe and restore". A $175 initial cost for 25GB or less of memory. I opted to do this from the start instead of paying the $50 evaluation charge THEN the charge for the wipe and restore. I dropped my computer off on July 2nd, I was told I would get a phone call Monday or Tuesday regarding any additional charges/problems. I didn't get a call Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. I called them Wednesday and was told the tech working on my computer was out of the office and they would get back to me within the hour, I never heard back from them, I called again Thursday and was told there would be an ADDITIONAL $150 charge for the wipe and restore as my memory was at 31GB (anything over 25GB is an upcharge). I explained that I was given a quote of not to exceed $225 for the wipe and restore and asked to speak with a manager. No one got back with me. I finally got a call Friday July 8th from the manager who after much back and forth agreed to honor the technicians initial quote. He tried to use the excuse that the tech is new and doesn't really understand how things work yet. Unfortunately that is not my problem. I agreed to the new charges and told them to do the work. So we are clear the additional charge for additional data is not for additional work but basically to rent space on their hard drive to store your data before transferring it back to your restored computer. I didn't hear anything back from them for a few days again and was finally called and said that when they restored it (after the charge and additional charge) they were doing windows updates and it kept crashing on them, they did a "free" evaluation and found discovered I had a bad hard drive. I have already spent $175 and still didn't have a working computer. I told them to do the work for yet another additional charge of $115 (hard drive and labor). It was almost 2 weeks before I got my computer back (the first time), the first night I had it, it crashed 3 times. I again made the 35 minute drive to take it in so they could again look at it. After another 3 days of having my computer they still could not find the problem.
Ultimately I still ended up buying a new computer, I will not use their services again. I will not recommend them. The manager Chad, while almost helpful has forgotten one major rule..., THE CUSTOMER I ALWAYS RIGHT.
