1ST CHOICE HOME IMPROVEMENT

Had our roof replaced. Should have got a couple more bids because based on what our neighbors have paid they were high. The work looks good although they did not do everything they said they would in the contract. I withheld money for that and they settled with it. They showed up on time, but were extremely messy and never did completely clean up the area. I did that, and withheld more money. I would not use them again for anything. They included a layer of insulation in the attic as " a perk". Come to find out that they add that perk because if the roof leaks, the insulation will soak up the small ones. I would recommend against using them.

Used the company based on some other people who had success with their windows, but later realized we should have checked the BBB and Angies List first. Warranty looked good, quality shingles/materials, pricing straight forward, and they were every quick to start so everything was going well considering we got hit with snow. Took them longer than expected to finish the roof, longer yet to do a good cleanup. Workmanship was not as good as expected, but only time will tell. No complaints on the gutter install which was done after the roof, and I did not buy the gutter guards they pushed hard for me to buy. The guys installing the blown insulation were great....quick and clean. Strange that they knew what to do considering the original estimator/salesman did not even look in my attic. Once they had their money, they took several weeks before the final cleanup of the roofing debris was complete (end of March), even after repeated contacts (call/email) to the company reps. Although weather played a small part, there were many days in which they could have come to clean. Neighbors were not too happy about this either. From sales call to final cleanup, about 6 weeks. Advice; get more quotes and look at Angies List/BBB before you sign anything. UPDATE: Have had two seperate wholesale building supply companies send me notices that 1st Choice did not pay their bills for the building materials, therefore they were going to put a lein on me for them not paying their bills (and I paid 1st Choice in full!!!!).

They were supposed to be done by the end of May. It wasn't done until October. We had to hire a lawyer because the quality of the stuff they installed was horrible. The wood on the windows were all gauged and split. The quality of the wood was horrible. We took pictures of it. They wouldn't return our phone calls. We finally had to get a lawyer to call them. They wouldn't even talk to the lawyer, our lawyer had to call theirs. They said they were replacing the wood. They didn't bring out the screens, so all Summer we had no screens in some of the window.s We now have a window leaking in our bedroom, and we can't get them to call us back. I would not refer an enemy to those people. The price was decent.

They arrived a little earlier then they had said they would which was fine because the time for the estimate was at 7:00pm. They took a look around the house and then came in when they were done. We had told them We NEED to whole house done, but may only do the sides depending on what we can afford and their estimate. They came in and told us the price which was ok....Only to find out an hour later that they didn't have the back of our house in the estimate because we said "we only wanted the sides done." Not quite what we said...but ok. So then they went out and added the back of the house to the estimate. Now our quote is over 40,000$ And this is with "25% off the retail price!!! We will give you that deal because we want to put a sign in your yard!" Then they sat for about another hour talking about thier company....by this time its 9:00pm We signed paperwork saying they could run an application for a loan through a company they deal with. They also said someone was coming by the next day to do additional measurements. This person did come by but asked me for a check for the deposit. I was some what thrown through a loop because we never said we were going to use this company. We decided if we had gotten approved for the loan, we would consider it. They said they would let us know the status of the application by Monday. (That was a Thursday they came over) Monday went by, no word, the next monday went by.....still no word from them...the next Monday went by and we finally heard BY MAIL from the bank they submitted our application to!!! At this point we knew we would now deal with them. The fact that they stayed in our home until 10:00pm, then to not call us after a credit application that they knew the results to, and the man trying to collect our down payment. Mean while just a week ago, about 6 weeks after the initial visit, I got a phone call asking when we were going to pay them. That was the first time i have even heard from them since they were at my house. Today I got a threatening letter saying if we didnt pay them and start the install they would take us to court due to our binded contract. The only thing we KNEW we were signing was the OK to run our credit report. If we did sign ANY KIND of contract, the totally dooped us on purpose. A week after they had come out we had another company out to give another estimate.....It was MORE then HALF the price as 1st choice gave us.

They did a good job with the windows. They finished the work quickly, and I was satisfied with them. They finished the work in 2 days. They did a good job with the cleanup as well. There were few issues but they were understanding and willing to solve all the problems. Some windows had to be redone because they could not be closed. Unfortunately, I have not had any solutions yet to these problems. Although they offer a life time warranty, they have not done it. Every time I call them to remind them about the job a person would come and take measurements and leave then never turn up. I liked them and they are friendly people but it?s just this thing that upset me. The cost they charged me also was good.

They were prompt and worked hard and cleaned up as they worked. Good job in all areas. Will use again for other projects. The house looks great.
