Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel, General Remodeling
None of the work has been completed. Any work that was done, was very shoddy.
He does not know how to lay tile, or do any plumbing. He tried to cover up a hole he left between my tub and the tile with a large glob of white caulk. He did not trim anything out like he said he was going to do. He did not seal the floor, because he didn't want to. I asked him to do it for me and he said, "You f**king do it. I don't have time for that." Also, the trap for the toilet was improperly installed. This means it needs to be plunged frequently, when it should not have to be. Once, when I left to go to the store while he was working, I came back to find his whole family lounging around my house eating pizza.
In the kitchen, we had a qualified young man, Matt Fox, come in and put down pergo flooring, which was well done. We had to remove the water heater to finish the job. When Matt Dixon was putting the water heater back in, we saw that the plastic fittings for the pipes in the top of the water heater had melted, so I gave him some money to go buy metal fittings for it. I just didn't want to worry about it. Matt Dixon put plastic fittings in.
When Dixon put in a new formica countertop which was not leveled or sealed, he took off from the job before the putting the dishwasher back in place. This left a good 2.5 feet of formica countertop hanging unsupported which could have easily been broken. A 2x4 was propped up underneath it. He never finished the tile backsplash.
Once it got to this point, I asked him to leave. I have heard of others that have reported similar problems both with his work, lack of work ethic, and his attitude. He is really pleasant when he is trying to get the job, however, this does not last. I got in touch with Angie's List so I could put in a word of warning about Matt Dixon. If there was at least one shining star all of the jobs he performed, that would be one thing, but truly, everything he did was sub-par and unprofessional.
