We visited Cary Howards home and office to see his plastering techniques, and selected one type of finish. I had to remove a soffit over some kitchen cabinets and reconstruct it. We also removed 30 year old wallpaper from the dining room, kitchen and hallway. The Howards taped the new dry wall I had installed and did some repair work where the walpaper removal had damaged the soffits.
After I applied the dry wall primer the Howards applied a sealer using rollers. Then they trowel on a greay plaster mixed with sand that dries hard like cement. The next day they use a specialty scraper to remove any ridges in the hardened plaster then trowel on a smooth layer of a different plaster mixture. When that is almost dry they then apply a third plaster mixture with a sponge. When that is almost dry they flatten the sponged on plaster with a wetted smooth metal trowel (no notches) held flat against the ceiling.
An additional cost saving step was for us to hang visqueen over all the kitchen cabinets and counter tops. The Howard's tarped the floor.
The results are amazing, we are very satisfied.
