We started off well with the dry wall. He took down all the pop corn ceilings we had on our first floor level, these consisted of our kitchen, master bedroom, living room, and dining room. He is a very good dry wall guy! However, we asked him to match our living room crown molding (the style and set up of it). We asked if he did this sort of thing or if he would have a man do it for him. He said and quot; No, I can do that myself no problem!and quot;. We left on vacation for a few days (first mistake!) and when we got home we were actually sick to our stomachs when we saw the molding. INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN-LARGE GAPS AT MEETING POINTS ON TWO CORNERS-ONE JOINT HAD ONE BOARD GOING PAST THE OTHER BY A HALF OF INCH! Our painter said while we were gone that he told Jim this was wrong and he said and quot;no, I just like the look of it this wayand quot;. Our painter knew we'd be upset but felt he didn't want to call us while gone, being concerned that we were trying to relax. We ended up having him and quot;fix itand quot;, and are now living with a lot of wood putty in there. Wrote it off to perhaps this wasn't his thing.... Next the electrical started and seemed to go okay until he got to the under counter LED lights. All was well with it until the most visible part, my display cabinet. He ran the big black wire through the middle of cabinet instead of a less noticeable part. Unhappy with it and not sure if we were being and quot; pickyand quot; we went to Michigan Chandelier to ask the staff. Not happy with it they jumped in their cars and followed us home to fix his mess. I might add how wonderful these girls were! Even after this attention to detail failed we still gave him another chance at our tile job. The reason, his wife had just had a big surgery and we thought this was perhaps distracting him. ( second mistake). May I say this..... Jim is honest we feel and a old time contractor type, a bit disheveled, knows about many building subjects... You get the picture. Always an answer for you even if he doesn't really know! We kinda thought it quaint. What we didn't see coming was that some of these things were just plain not admitting he doesn't know how, and doesn't want to hear you tell him anything that other expert have said otherwise. It's too bad cause we all can learn no matter how old we, including us. I have attached photos of our tile work and will let you be the judge if you'd want this in your house. We paid him over 600.0and quot; for labor to do this section of his contract with us,( which was paid). We paid 822.00 for our marble (sub-way) and the grout etc... Now it appears we have to demo the whole thing and start over. The wall was never prepped, the lines uneven, grout missing and not correct texture, the tiles uneven, in and out. It's just a MESS! I cried, my husband was quiet and sick. Now what? Doubt he gives us our money back, most likely will have to pay for tile, and everything delayed again. Tonight he re-did six tiles to see if we'd like it. We don't! Still bad, and now by drilling out the old, he damaged the tiles around them. Just because someone says they can do a job, check other jobs of theirs to make sure. Just because no one had complained doesn't mean there might not be a problem, and ask yourself this... X HOW CAN SOMEONE DO A JOB AND WALK AWAY FROM IT THINKING ITS OKAY????? DO THEY NOT SEE THESE MISTAKES? DO THEY WANT THIS WORKMANSHIP IN THEIR HOUSE? AND LAST QUESTION, DO YOU HAVE PROFESSIONALS IN YOUR HOME DOING WORK THAT IS WAY BELOW STANDARD AND ACCEPT IT JUST BECAUSE THEY SMILE, AND ARE HONEST? The answer we have learned is NO! PLEASE DONT! This was a lot of money and we don't have it to blow like this. I wrote this so others will be aware and if you go with him on detailed work, then God Bless! *PLEASE NOTE: MET WITH MR. SAMP ON 1-29-2014. HE GAVE US A CREDIT FOR HIS LABOR ON TILE, UNFINISHED ELECTRICAL, AND A COUPLE OTHER SMALL ITEMS THAT WERE NOT COMPLETED. HOWEVER, RUINED OUR 822.00 TILE AND WOULD NOT GIVE US ANYTHING TOWARDS THAT. NOT GOOD!!! WE HAVE HAD THREE EXPERTS LOOK AT THE WORK AND GIVE US A BID ON REPAIRING. HAVE TO CUT IT ALL OUT AND DRY WALL, THEN RE-TILE. ALL HAVE WONDERED HOW THIS MAN COULD DO SUCH AWFUL WORK. FEEL VERY SAD ABOUT THE WHOLE MESS. *

Excellent. The quality of the work is great and Jim is trustworthy and reliable.
Description of Work: J. Samp Contracting has done a number of jobs for me over the years-installed new windows, hung doors, complete bathroom renovations, hot water heater installations, installation of granite kitchen counter tops and tile back splashes to name a few. Jim is extremely professional, timely in his work, comes when he says he is going to come, and does meticulous work. He never leaves a mess behind---cleans every thing up and hauls away any debris. I would trust him to do any home remodeling job that I needed done!
