Better than expected. They did it sooner than everyone else could. They had additional problems due to old pipes and the final bill was less than quoted. Took less than two hours and the tech was very professional and friendly. I look forward to doing business with them again.

Contacted Walters & Hemming Wednesday afternoon, they were one of four different plumbers contacted included another full service plumbing & HVAC company.  I had found the outgoing old copper hot water line leaking at the top of the heater.  I was up until 4am the previous night trying to close the cold water shut-off valve that ran to the tank.  It used the old knob style but it had no knob on it.  The location abutted the chimney making it very hard to turn with two different wrenches.

Of the four plumbers contacted, Walters & Hemming was able to schedule my repair service for the next morning on Thursday.  Considering their base rate and the need to get our hot water online again it was an obvious choice.  The scheduler said that the actual plumber would call the next day about 8:30am to let me know they were enroute plus I suggested giving that plumber directions to our back yard.
Up before 8am Thursday awaiting a call from plumber - about 8:32am plumber knocked on my back door without calling first.  Apparently he was familiar with city streets and alleys plus he had not received any note about calling first.  I showed the plumbing issues as described above - I had set-up a trouble light plus a move-able spotlight around the plumbing and water heater.
Everything was done with new lever style ball shut-off valves. The curving copper lines were replaced with straight sections, elbows and fittings.  The lever style ball shut off valve for the cold water was now a cinch to turn off into the hot water tank.  A cold water shut valve to the 2nd floor bathroom supply was put in the correct order before the valve to the tank.
Job was completed by 11am - Everything worked fine now - hot water was back online by just after noon.

We had no hot water or heat from our boiler system. Walters and Hemming immediately sent a repairman out to assess the situation. He recommended we have the circulating pump replaced. We thought we would have to replace the entire system as it is very old. He did agree that replacing the system was a good idea but not immediately necessary. This was a relief with snow coming soon. He went right to work and worked quickly even though the pump was located in an extremely awkward position. He even explained what he needed to do and showed us the broken part. We had heat and hot water within a couple of hours. The repairman followed up with a call the next day to make sure all was working.

As with last year, there is a somewhat of a long interval between the initial call for a boiler inspection and and the actual inspection, but I called earlier this year and so the inspection was done much sooner than last year.  The replaced valve turned out not to be the source of the leak, but after calling them back, the leak was promptly dealt with.  I paid for another part, but was not billed for the service call.

I really appreciated their problem solving skills, their professionalism and on going communication. No and quot;my way or the highwayand quot; here. They asked what I wanted and gave it to me.

Excellent service. Very courteous, knowledgeable and skilled technician. Found least expensive option for repair. Worked quickly and showed me what he was doing and why.

They put me on the list...they came within a few hours...fixed the problem quickly...the bill will come in the mail! So thankful!
