Maxbauer Market

This is a wonderful gourmet meat  market.  I picked up a loaf of multi-grain Bay Bread from the rack inside the door and proceeded to the fresh vegetable and fruit section where I found some lovely fresh, local green beans packaged.  But what I was really there for was --- STEAK.  They have a beautiful section of meats that they  will slice to order.  They  are "Sterling Silver" meats, well-marbled and promising to be tender.  I picked out my New York strip steaks and also a five-pound package of freshly ground sirloin.  I looked over the Amish poultry selections and moved on to their slice-to-order bacon.  A slab of bacon was brought from the back room and sliced to my specifications.  I also bought some sliced ham from the deli meat selection that also includes a large selection of cheeses.  They make their own hot dogs and sausages.  The shish-ke-bobs they prepare with marinade ready for the grill are legendary in my neighborhood.   A neighbor of mine has gone back to buy a container of just the marinade to have at home after cooking the shish-ke-bobs for her family. 

The steaks I bought were  tender and tasty, well worth the trip to town.  We cooked some of the fresh green beans to go with them.  My friend from Florida told me that  when she and her husband come up from Florida, they go in to  Maxbauer's and buy hot dogs, brats, steaks, and bacon and the staff will special wrap them for traveling.  They put them in a cooler in the special wrap and  to take home and carefully portion them out until they can come back again and stock up. 

The staff will also cut  your selections to  your specifications. I also bought a rack of baby back spareribs, and the clerk, Tammy,  removed the membrane and cut them into smaller portions so I could cook them easier.  At holiday time, they take orders for fresh turkeys and country hams, complete with specific cooking instructions.
