Difficult to deal with and could not even get a quote.
Description of Work: Called Joey and requested a quote for a basement tape and texture. He said he would call the next day and come by to quote the job. Never heard back from him again. When I talked to him on the phone he was very egotistical about how to hang drywall and seemed annoyed that I had hung the drywall myself. I had another company come give me a quote and they are finishing up the job now and have done a fabulous job.

We cannot say enough great things about Joey! We had to redo the drywall in our bathroom (including the ceilings) and he did an excellent job. He was very responsive (both through calls and texts), professional, and finished the project in a timely manner. Both my husband and I work during the day, so it was great that Joey was able to come over while we were at work and do the job then. Joey was conscious of the dust the drywall had created and went through extreme lengths to make sure the dust did not spread (he ever covered the carpet on the stairs to ensure the dust did not settle there). Most importantly, though, was the quality of his work. Truly, everything he did was PERFECT. We are so pleased with the outcome of the project and will definitely use him in the future!

Joey did a very good job. He actually went beyond our agreed contract to fix errors in the framing. It was a small room but turned out to be a time consuming job. I really appreciate his good work ethic. Love my new kitchen.
Description of Work: Fixed some framing issues, installed new drywall on raised ceiling in kitchen, repaired drywall where electrician had opened for new wiring, textured and primed new drywall, and repaired some corner damage in dining room

We had at least three drywall people up to view the house in Red Feather Lakes. It is plaster and lath construction and needed serious repairs. One offered a minimal job at too low of a cost. Another spent an hour of our time, brought his girl friend and told us he could only work on weekends and could start in six weeks at twice the cost of the first guy. Person number three spent two hours with us, told us all the work he would do, outlined what he needed us to do, told us he would give us a bid in two days (minimum) and we never heard from him again - even after leaving several messages on his phone. We were at a loss and over a month into a long house remodel. I contacted Joey LaDean and was pleasantly surprised that he showed up when he said he would. He told us what he would do to repair the plaster and lath damage in the home. Since the home was in Red Feather Lakes, we offered to pay for his transportation cost. That only seemed fair since we live in Fort Collins and he lives in Loveland. He started the next day and we got a copy of the work order he had prepared. We paid half the fee up front. He worked consecutive days. He told us that most of the damage was done by water laying on the ceiling, oozing through the cracks and then loosening the ceiling paint. There were water stains on the walls, too. We were told that the roof had been replaced about six years ago, but we weren't told of any past leakage. About halfway through, we started to notice that his work was so good, we asked his opinion on other possible repairs he could do. Could he fix the walls in the kitchen and not just the ceiling? What about the wall in the living room that looked like it was an accordian? The bubbly looking corner of the ceiling in one of the bedrooms? He offered to tape the doorway openings that were roughed in. He added these things and more to his job and took it all in stride. He did a superb job of the priming and painting of the ceilings. He even primed the whole kitchen! I didn't even ask for that, but was so pleased that he did! We are do-it-yourselfers and gratefully appreciated this boost to our timeline on this project. He worked an extra week on the job. He has a real passion for his work and loves to get it just right! He is a hard worker. His fee for the extra work was fair, though he more than doubled his materials cost. I asked him to call me every evening that we could not be present on the job site. He kept us appraised of his progress. He asked questions about things he wasn't sure of. (What a bonus that was!) He notified us if he thought he was going to be late. He was always pleasant, courteous and fun to be around, but he was serious about his work. I would recommend Joey to anyone without reservations. I would certainly use his services again if the opportunity arose. This guy is definitely worth every penny! I wish more contractors were like him!
Description of Work: Provider assessed existing condition of plaster/lath in home. Offered detailed description of work that could be done including repairing and patching plaster, skim-coating, texture, priming and painting. Offered written estimate and contract for services. Requested payment in cash for services (half up front). As the job began, we asked for more work to be done, realizing what we had asked for was a minimal job and we had a real expert with a passion for his work in our midst. Provider exceeded expectations for work done. Did everything we asked for and more with enthusiasm.

Joey did a great job on our project. My highest priority was on the detail and look of the finished product, and we got a perfect product! We added a bedroom, closet, bathroom, and hallway to the house, and it is easily the best looking part of the house. I have been in a lot of exquisite houses and I have rarely seen the attention to detail that we have in this addition. We are expecting an appraisal next week for a refinance, and I can't wait to show the appraiser this newly added high quality square footage within our house. If you want a perfect job, call Joey. If you want something slammed together within a super-tight timeframe, and are willing to sacrifice quality - call someone else.
Description of Work: Joey was contracted to finish the drywall, texture, and paint a new addition/remodel to our house.

I had a really long review written since I wanted people to understand how this whole, long, painful process went with Joey. But since people don't like to read through such a long explanation, here is it in a nutshell just multiply this by 3 on the negative experience. - has no project planning skills (took him double the estimated time of 5-6 days for two rooms and a bathroom!!!). - blamed other contractor (the contractor who referred him to me) and me for him taking so long - does not care about timing - does not care about customer (only works on his schedule!!!) - is getting very! defensive when ask to leave at a decent time (7-8 pm) while he says he is used to the homeowners letting him stay and work as long and at whatever time of day he sees fit. - stayed at times past 9 pm because he would never show up until late afternoon. He told me that his time does not revolve around me and I am not the only project he has doing - He was rude, insensitive, got aggressive when I questioned him, started raising his voice with my daughter in the other room - very unprofessional He said he would be at my house by 8 am the first day he was supposed to start. He didn't show up until around11:15. He left again 1/2 hour later to get supplies, came back around 1 pm and left for the day at 2:30. This raised a red flag and I started recording his coming and going. (I worked from home those two weeks and he could have come any time during the day). That was just the beginning of the what seemed like a never ending nightmare. When I questioned him about his work hours, he said he never meant really 5-6 days and that the first day didn't count and that the estimate didn't include drying time. Really????? An estimate is start to finish time!!!! He also told me I should have done my research better, he wanted me to check if the walls were dry enough for him to come back and continue since he didn't want to make that extra trip, that I could have done more to make everything dry faster.... and on and on and on.... Before day 10, I told him if he is not done by the end of day 10, he can not return. Well, he wasn't done and he stayed past 10 pm that day!!! When he left, he left behind all his trash as well (soda cups, bottles, just to mention a few things). This has been the worst experience with a contractor that I have ever had anywhere!!! I hope other people don't have to go through this despite what his defense might be since I believe he will blame everyone and the world before himself. My biggest mistake was to not have fired him after day 3. That was my mistake and I take blame for that.

I paid to join Angie's List not to find reliable companies. I actually handed the money over because I felt it was my obligation to tell what an amazing job my drywall guy/painter did for us. I don't really know how to describe him but to say he seems to be half perfectionist, half artist. This may get a little long, but to start with I have been in the process of finishing my basement. I got everything done this summer but the drywall finished, textured and painted. Joey LaDean's Painting and Drywall came in and did an absolutely beautiful job in waaaaay less time than I thought it would or should. And when I say he's a perfectionist, I mean it. I'm pretty sure he has very high standards for himself and is very proud of his work. Those traits seem very hard to find in any trade anymore. It actually seemed like he was doing work on his own house with how much care he was taking. I couldn't have been happier with everything he did. And now my wife and three kids have two extra bedrooms for the grandparents and a new play area! So after so diligent of a job downstairs, we asked him about painting the exterior of our house. I think the HOA was cracking down in our neighborhood because we got letters and I think literally every other house got painted this year here. My wife and I talked to several companies and we felt like he was the most competitively priced for all he was going to do. When he was prepping the outside of our house for paint, he methodically sealed every single bit of our house that could possibly have needed it, including every single nail hole from where the builders had put the siding up. Although I know God said he wouldn't do it this way again, I can honestly say that Joey sealed up our house so well that if God did decide to throw 40 days of rain our way my family would probably be sitting inside our house, nice and dry. After all is said and done our house looks better than the day it was finished being built (I bought it new so I know). And then on top of all of that, he was a great guy. My boys (6yrs and 3yrs) now feel like he is part of our family and include his name when they talk about the family. I don't know, all in all I just have to say that I couldn't be happier with the work he did for us and it was all at a really great price. It's not often, I don't think, that you actually come away from an experience with painters, mechanics, car salesman, etc feeling like YOU got the better of the deal, but to sum up, that's exactly how I feel about my dealings with Joey LaDean's Painting and Drywall. I can't emphasize how strongly I would recommend his work to anyone!
Description of Work: Drywall finished in basement, taping, texturing, fixing what I had messed up, painting. Exterior prep and paint as well.
