Started the first week of October. What a nightmare! We were hosting the family's Christmas and wanted to have work done in preparation. Originally, Lorne said it would take 2~3 weeks. Try 3+ months. He said. ?I don't want a dime until the job is done and you are happy.?. First day, he was 2 hrs. late showing up to the job. Changes made to the original estimate were installing 3 puck lights(instead of just moving electrical, moving electrical and installing a recessed light( Lorne stated it took him 45mins for that light), and reducing the size of the over the stove cabinet to accommodate new hood. Originally, Lorne stated it would take an extra week for the additional work. The job was to be completed and paint ready by the end of October. This would give me time to paint prior to our November 19th ? Dec. 2nd Florida Trip. Sometimes they'd show up after the demo. and sometimes not for days at a time, with no calls, etc. Found out they took a garage job and were trying piggyback the 2 jobs. They still weren't done a week before we left. I told him to use his paint guy, because I no longer had time and they still hadn't sanded the drywall or crown molding patches. He scheduled his painter who painted BEFORE the sanding was done, which made it look like my 10yr. old son did the work with silly putty. The delay also lost my scheduled counter and tile contractor for the backsplash because of timing, so I told Lorne to use his counter guy and I would wait until after Christmas for the stone tile backsplash. Lorne told me I needed to pick it before I left, so he could order it (with half down deposit) to have it ready for installation when we returned. I rearranged my work schedule to accommodate and cut check before we left. No big surprise, after a number of calls and excuses, it wasn't ordered until after we returned home. His stone/quartz subcontractor is wonderful, but that's another review. The Friday we were on our way out to a Christmas party, Lorne showed up to connect the sink with his invoice for the second half of work(remember him saying I don't want a dime.....???), saying that everything including the patchwork walls would be fixed and completed that night and wanted a check as we were walking out the door. I cut the check( I know not smart). We returned home late to find a rats nest or something that resembled a ?MouseTrap? game under our sink and NONE of the wall blobs fixed. I called him after I stopped payment on the check and he had the nerve to be upset with me?? He came back to 'finish' his tick list of issues after I wired partial payment of the balance. After 3 attempts at fixing the mess and my open concept house a dust bowl for 3 months, I just wanted them out of there. It took me 3 days to fixe the sanding and painting of the drywall/ molding transition work. Lorne over promises and under delivers His crew who are adequate would be better served by someone that knew how to run a job. Learn from my mistake, don't do it.

This project was very large and required extensive demolition as well as new construction. The work also necessitated sensitivity to the architectural features of the old house to preserve its original character. Care was taken with chandeliers, wood flooring ceramic tile and plumbing fixtures to retain them wherever possible. Mr. Knauft is a person of the highest integrity, honest to a fault and conscientious about following through on his commitments. The vast scope of this undertaking and the many unforeseen problems that are inevitable with a project of this magnitude made it crucial that a person of Mr. Knaut's caliber be in charge. In every instance, whenever there was a problem or a glitch, Mr. Knauft was patient, courteous, sensitive to the sometimes difficult expectations of his clients and generous with his time and resources. He went out of his way on numerous occasions to see that we were satisfied. He was also prompt and efficient at addressing the post- construction problems that are sure to occur with a project so large that involved coordinating so many different sub- contractors. He also kept us informed regarding the running costs as the project progressed so that we were aware of areas where changes in plans increased the final tab. Now that the project is complete, Mr. Knauft has continued to be available and has maintained the same high standard of promptness, courtesy and professionalism that has characterized his work throughout our extensive transaction. We are most appreciative of the the opportunity to work with Lorne Knauft in returning a once proud local landmark to its former glory!
Description of Work: Lorne Knauft completed a total remodel/renovation of a 1928 house that had been severely damaged by a long-term water leak. The project included new drywall, electrical, plumbing, heating, flooring, tile work, finish carpentry, roofing and paint. In all respects, the project was done to a very high standard. The once damaged and neglected house is now a showplace thanks to Lorne and his excellent crew.

House wasn't fit for our disabled daughter and Knauf was recommended to us. We appreciated the professionalism and concern displayed throughout the entire process. Estimate was very reasonable and he worked well to fit the insurance and OT expectations. Our only issue was that it took a bit longer than the original estimate as there were days off for hunting and holidays that weren't anticipated and a few delays with ordered materials that were not their fault. Overall, we are very happy with the process and outcome. We've recommended Knauf to two other families in similar situations and both are very happy as well.

He is very honest. He was excellent throughout and I can’t say enough good about him. Our mechanic recommended him to us. I was impressed by his professionalism and his responsiveness to our concerns. I think he actually did some repairs for free for us and I think he is very trustworthy.
