 + -1 moreDon't be put off by the organized insanity in the shop. If you are looking to repair or purchase refurbished computer equipment, I heartily recommend Startec. In the last year, I have purchased a high end Dell Workstation, 25" monitors and a laptop. A colleague bought a high end HP workstation. All of the gear is cleaned up, checked out, and has worked great. The core of the business, for me, is the easy availability of good, clean, business grade computer equipment that has been procured from the off-lease market. For my money, these systems may not have the gee-whiz coolest processors and video cards, but: 1) they work. 2) You can get parts for them. 3) they typically out last the "consumer" equipment that you buy at the same time. The proprietor and staff know their stuff and will help you make a decision or guide you to solutions that you may not have thought of.

Description of Work: My computer had fried itself that morning from a virus. I'd made several calls to find a repair service or to get a new computer. I called Startec and the gentleman I spoke to was both knowledgeable and kind. I went out there later that same day with my computer, they sold me a new used one and transferred all my data to it and gave me my old hard drive back. They're honest and very experienced and knowledgeable. I'd say, go there first if you ever have a problem, or need a new or used computer. The deals are good and the service is the best.

 + 0 moreI had them replace my hard drive, my motherboard, some other things, and give me much, much more needed memory. I love to store pictures, which take up lots of room. Startec does exactly what they say they are going to do and if they encounter further problems when they get inside and find they need to do something additional, they call and explain why they think they should do whatever and they give you a price which they stand by. What a pleasure to deal with such an honest company!
Description of Work: How wonderful to have a place like Angie's list where I can report both the GOOD & the BAD! I am very tired of being ripped off by greedy people and want to help others through my experiences, as well as benefit through theirs. About 15 years ago, my husband set out to find a reputable computer repair company who we could count on and trust. It took him several years to do it, but about 10 years ago, he chanced on Startec Computers in Sterling Heights. We have had no reason to go anywhere else since. They are honest, fair, good, and affordable. It means so much to be able to trust what they tell me is wrong with my computer and know they are not going to high pressure me to purchase something I do not need. My husband was the computer geek in the family and since he passed away, they even explain and demonstrate for me a few minor things I don't understand. I have two VERY old computers. They just upgraded one and are now working on the other. Is it ever wonderful to get my computer back and have it zip through things knowing that Startec Computers stands by their work. I can't say enough good about the care they take with their customers. They have many regulars and I can certainly understand why.

 + -1 moreTHEY GOT TO MY COMPUTER VERY FAST AND GOT THE JOB DONE. THEY SEEM TO BE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND WILL ALSO GIVE YOU HELPFUL ADVICE. I ALSO THINK THAT THEIR PRICES SEEM TO BE VERY REASONABLE.
