Mar 24th ... Project Manager Giovanni Bugli came to the house two days after calling for someone to bid the project. He was very professional and cordial. He presented us with a color brochure with patterns and colors for the stamped concrete and answered several of our questions regarding the company and products. He educated us on the differences between light and dark colors of concrete in relation to the sun exposure the concrete would be getting. He pointed out that his method of removing the brick pavers was to advertise on Craig's List and try to have someone remove them for free, then if that didn't work he would have his crew remove the pavers.
Mar 26th ... Received an email from Giovanni with the bid quote for $4800 to do the project of approx. 400 sq ft of our choice of color and pattern of 6 bag mix of concrete containing 10 ga screen on a base of 21AA gravel and remove the brick pavers.
Mar 31st ... Informed Giovanni via email that we would be going with a competitors bid ... not because of the cost (only $300 difference) ... but because we did not like the method to remove the brick pavers possibly involving unknown individuals from Craig's List coming to the house.
I was a little surprised at some of the cleanup left for me but I understand this is the norm. Other than that they were far above norm and I would use them again.
The salesman was very knowledgeable. I explained that I wanted to expand the driveway to the property line and I wanted to expand the approach quite a bit, but I knew Saint Clair Shores has a lot of rules and regulations on driveways and approaches. Right after talking to me he went to the City with the drawing to see if I what I wanted would be approved by the city and called me back within an hour or two to let me know it could be done.
Metropolitan came out on a Tuesday to lay the platforms for the cement. After they left, I inspected what was done to compare to what the agreed upon drawing was and noticed a discrepancy. I called the Project Manager and arranged a time to meet with him and they corrected the problem to my satisfaction.
The work crew was very hardworking and professional. I have had cement work done in the past, where the work crew left a mess. This work crew cleaned up everything after themselves and answered all my questions about when the cement could be walked on and the car driven on. I told the Project Manager and the Foreman that I was worried about kids carving their names and someone accidently turning around on the new approach. They brought out sawhorses and put them in front of the expanded approach. I bought construction fence and the work crew happily put that up for me and stringed caution tape around the whole project.
I would recommend Metropolitan to my friends and family.
"This job was done in the summer of 2012, not 2014 as stated in Mr. [removed member name] complaint. Our attempts to ask him to correct the information he submitted have failed. We have supplied Angie's List with copies of our contract and cancelled checks verifying the date this job was completed. In response to a phone call to our office from Mr. [removed member name] this month, May of 2014, a project manager from Metropolitan Concrete was sent to his home to inspect his concrete. It appeared that there was some spalling on the top surface in some areas. We strongly advise our customers against the use of chemical deicers on new concrete, especially in the first year of use. We provide this warning in writing and we exclude from our 1-year warranty any coverage in cases where chemical deicers are used. These situations are simply out of our control. The result of deicers is spalling. This particular complaint although likely would have been excluded as a result of chemical deicers, which the customer acknowledged using; was also a full year past its' 1-year warranty. The job was 2-years old. It is always our intention to make all of our customers completely satisfied customers for life. We can only control our part of the transaction. No one is ignored. Even though the job was well out of our standard warranty, we sent a seasoned project manager to make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary or unusual such as failure of product or installation. There was not. We offered Mr. [removed member name] a substantial discount to replace the affected areas as a courtesy. He declined."
