Marble and Granite Service
Showed up 3 hours late. Attempted to install a backsplash that was broken in half. I had to tell them that there was absolutely no way I would accept it that way. For them to try and get away with that is pretty lame. The countertop next to the fridge was so out of square you could see it from a mile away. The holes drilled for the faucet are off center and not evenly spaced. A notch cut on site was miscut so now I'm left with caulk to fill their sloppy work. Because of the broken backsplash and out of square counter, I got to waste time off from work to meet them again on another day to finish. Don't waste your time and money with these people!

Marble and Granite Service, Countertop and Backsplash Service + 1 more
We had one minor glitch on installation. After warning us about the importance of support at the front of the sink, they were prepared to install the counter top with no support at all at that point because of space issues. I called a halt to the installation until I figured out a solution myself. I chalked that up to a unique situation.
However, after they collected their check and left, I wiped the counter top with a damp cloth and two dark outlines emerged of a rectangular chemical can. We got the supervisor back. He photographed the stain and said he would consult with peers and get back to us. He never did. Meanwhile, the stains got darker and became visible even when the counter was dry. We tried calling, writing and visiting the company but could never reach a manager. They were even unresponsive to a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
After nearly two years of this, we felt we had two choices: either go to court or become resigned to the loss of value for our investment. By chance during out-of-state travel, we stopped at a restaurant in an old furniture factory in Rockford, IL that also had a "Stone Company" on another floor. I related our problem to the woman at their front desk. She said if it were their job, they would feel obligated to to replace the defective counter top. She also suggested trying a $17 product of theirs, OPP Poultice Powder, an oil stain remover by SCI. We purchased and applied the product which turned out to be very effective.
Our conclusion is that the company either lacks the expertise to prevent, diagnose and/or treat the problem that we encountered, or it lacks the ethical commitment to make things right. In this case, a $17 expense and a little time and effort would have saved us many hours of complaint resolution effort and would have had us recommending their business instead of writing this complaint.
