They told us that to run the recommended tests and treat the dog may take a day of hospitalization costing $2,261.50 and if something was found causing a second day of hospitalization an additional $1,346.00 would be added. Even though the Doctor indicated that a second day was extremely unlikely the person admitting our dog said it was policy to charge the maximum and provide a refund for a shorter stay, We called after about 9, 12,and 15 hours and were told various reasons why tests were not done and each time we were told that they would be done in the next couple of hours. At about hour 19 we were given the results no cause found but the dog had not been systematic so I went to pick the dog up. I spent the next couple of hours disputing the bill. To why the tests were not given priority since that is the only reason we left her I was told the Doctor said since the dog was going to be there for two days there was no need to run it earlier. As to why the charges were nearly $600 over the cost for one day even though the hospitalization was about 21 hours, I was told that I brought the dog in at 11:00 PM and their days run 6 AM to 6 AM so 11 PM to 6 AM (7 hours) is a half day and 6 AM to about 7:30 PM (about 13.5 hours) is a full day. I was charged for 36 hours of service for about 21.5 hours most of which was delays at the whim of the staff. Had I arrived at 6:01 and picked the dog up at 5:59 I would have been charged nearly $600 less for 23 hours and 58 Minutes than I was for about 21.5 hours. And had they completed the tests by my first call I would have picked the dog up by 9:00 AM. (10 hours) I would have expected the costs to be tests plus ½ day hospitalization, I was told I could talk to a manager which I tried. About half my calls result in the manager saying she will get back to me within a specific time frame. The other half came after the time frame was up and then I was told the manager is not in. They finally responded after 28 days and provided a $248.63 credit for what I consider about an $845 over charge, (assuming the "necessary" test requiring her hospitalization was still "necessary" more than 16 hours after admission)
