I have lived in this home 27 years.  The already large oak next to the house had flourished during that time.  The tree trunk was bisected by the property line with my neighbors lot. Unfortunately, in the last year the roots have damaged my foundation and it had to come down.  As both of the front yards have septic fields I did not want to bring in any heavy equipment.
Jeff is a calm and collected man and takes his time to explain the process and work involved.  I experienced no high pressure salesmanship, and felt I knew him by the time we were done talking.  We agreed on a price and set an open-ended date for the work, dependent on the weather. 
Jeff and his crew arrived on time at 8:00 am for what we thought would be a one day job.  As it turned out, the temperature took a dramatic drop and it took a bit of time to get the work started.  At 9:00 am the lumberjack was climbing the tree.  With ropes and pulleys, the majority of the massive amount of side branches were trimmed and lowered safely to the ground.  This was a feat in itself as all my wires are brought into the house directly under the tree, not to mention utility connections and my air conditioner.  No damage occurred during the work. At the end of the first day, the area was completely cleaned and chips were delivered to a neighbor down the street.  
On the second day, the weather was beautiful and again they arrived on time.  They dropped the rest of the wood and the tree, stacked it neatly in the far back area of the next door neighbor's yard (who wanted the wood to burn).  Large sheets of plywood were placed on the ground during this time to protect the grass from the small bobcat used for transport.
When they ground the huge stump, they transported the chips to the back of my yard and dumped them in mounds in my desired area so I could easily spread them.  They cleaned up completely, removed any debris that was on my roof, and actually performed a cursory shingle inspection.
My home backs up to state land in a heavily wooded area.  Over the years, I have had numerous trees removed due to the various diseases that have decimated Michigan's forests.  Northwood Tree Service gave me the best service of all the companies I hired over the years.  I will not use another company after this.  I plan to hire them again this summer to landscape the backyard.
