Regarding the carpeting....

This store practices overmeasuring - a tactic used in carpet sales to increase the sale of carpet, pad, and labor, not to mention furniture moving and carpet removal. All these things are calculated by the square foot and so every square foot of overmeasuring has each of these components added into the cost. I should add here that overmeasuring is usually very difficult to detect. But since our room was almost a perfect rectangle and the required carpet was one 12'x25' piece, it was very easy to discover their dishonesty.

We didn't realize that we were oversold carpeting until the installers laid the carpeting and didn't use (or possess or cut) the extra amount for which we had been billed. When we pursued this at the store level, we were given the runaround and told the most absurd lies.

We figured that we were overbilled for about $200. We pursued this to the president of World of Floors who basically washed his hands of the incident. In the end, someone at World of Floors agreed with us about the overmeasuring and promised a refund. We waited 2 weeks for a confirmation call from the company regarding this. Our letters and calls were ignored. We contacted our credit card company and they issued the refund promptly because World of Floors evidently did not respond to them either.

Regarding the window treatments....

About the same time that we purchased the carpeting, we also purchased window treatments. We made a point of asking for cordless shades because of our cats but corded shades were sent and installed. The installer suggested that this sort of thing happens all the time, that I should contact the company, and that they would make it right. With the installer at our house during business hours, I called World of Floors and incredibly I got an answering machine - from a brick and mortar location that exists within Art Van! I was called back over an hour later and the resolution process began. Apparently, the salesman had entered the wrong product number. I say apparently because he was no longer working at this World of Floors location.

We tried to work with World of Floors. They suggested and we agreed that the shades be placed on a different mechanism. But as this solution was pursued, our calls went unanswered and responsibility was shifted from person to person. We simply could not get them to resolve this in what we thought was a fair and reasonable manner - a manner in which they agreed! We did not want these shades and they knew it. They also know that we were willing to accept a transfer of the shades onto a different roller. But as with the carpeting, they did not return our calls. We had no choice but to file a dispute of the charges with the credit card company. And once again, World of Floors did not respond to them and we were issued a refund for the initial deposit we made for the shades.

It's hard to believe a company as big as World of Floors can conduct business like this and still survive and thrive. Maybe we are the exception. But their business practices with us were dishonest and unprofessional.

I would never buy carpet from them because they overmeasure and overmeasuring is next to impossible to detect. I would never buy window treatments from them because they cannot accurately write up an order. And I would never do business with them because they do not correct mistakes which they freely acknowledge.

My recommendation is to run, not walk, from this retailer.
