The original contract was signed on June 20, 2024 with a $500 deposit. The work was to start the 3rd week of July. I had to call him during that 3rd week to confirm a start date, as I was leaving town for a weekend trip. They came on July 23, 2024 at 7:00 am and tore up the existing driveway. By 7:00 pm they had poured the new concrete. They came back three days later to rehang my gate. When I tried to open my gate I couldn't because the old driveway had sunk, so when the laid the new driveway the gate was laying right on top of the new concrete and wouldn't open. I called Antonio and he said, we hung it back to the same height that we took it down. I have someone who can come and rehang it for you, but he will charge a fee. I thought that was unfair, but I just wanted it done so I paid $250.00 to have the gate rehung. They left concrete in my grass, splashes of concrete on my garage siding and my neighbors brick wall facing my driveway. Fast forward to August 21, 2024, I came home to a notice on my front door from the Redford Township Inspectors office informing me I needed a permit and inspection of the new driveway. I immediately pulled my contract and it indicated the contractor was responsible for all permits and inspections. I reached out to Antonio (he never provided his last name) but said he was the owner. He told me he would go in and pull the permit and schedule the inspection. I received another letter from the township dated 8/28/2024 indicating the violation had not been corrected. I reached out to Antonio by phone and he said he forgot and was going that day. The next day he texted me a copy of the application for the permit. I noticed he indicated the the value of the construction was $8000.00 (I have my receipts showing the deposit of $500.00) and the copy of the cashiers check for the balance of $10,000.00. On 9/12/2024 I received a letter from the township indicating the permit had not been picked up, nor had the inspection been scheduled. I spoke to the inspector assigned to my job and he indicated that the contractor needed to come in and schedule the inspection. I reached out to the contractor to inform him I had spoken to the township inspector. The contractor texted me on 9/16/2024 that the permit had been finalized and the inspection would occur on 9/17/2024. Now fast forward to March 2025, the snow has now melted and I notice what appears to be chipped concrete in the driveway (it looks as If someone took an ice pick to the concrete. On March 13, 2025 I reached out to Antonio the contractor and informed him of the problem in the concrete, he told me he would come out on Monday 3/17/25 to look at it. On 3/18/25 I texted Antonio to see when he would be coming to look at the driveway, I received no response. On 3/19/25 I called Antonio's cell phone and left a voice message, received no response. I texted again on 3/24/25, and l called again on 3/28/25 and left a voice message, received no response. On 4/1/25 I texted Antonio again and he responded he would try to come by Wednesday or Thursday (that he had just come back from a family vacation). On 4/7/2025 I texted him a video of the damage to the driveway. He responded , he hasn't forgotten me, that I should trust him and he will come to check it out. To date I have not heard from Antonio or anyone else from Palermo Construction Company. I then called the township inspector to see what other action I could take to get Antonio to honor his contract and word. I was told I could hire a contractor to inspect the driveway and tell me what the problem is or I could hire a contract attorney to file a suit. Lastly I could contact the State of Michigan Contractors Licence bureau and go after his contractors licence. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income, I cannot afford to pay an attorney. That's when I decided to go Palermo website to see what type of reviews were out there. I found none. So I decided to check Angi's website to see if there were any reviews out there. I saw a few, but they were from family members whose driveways Palermo had replaced. I just want my driveway repaired without me having to pay someone else thousands of dollars that I do not have, when I hired someone who was recommended on the Angi website. This is not my first interaction with your site, I'm just disappointed in this contractor that he has not been straight forward with me from the beginning. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
