VERY disappointed with Essex Homes (Essex-homes.com in Michigan). I highly don’t recommend. There are plenty of better home builders in Michigan to choose from. They are not familiar with the materials they use, especially exterior materials. I specifically stated I did not want orange brick and I have orange brick. It would have been nice if the builders would have spoken up and let me know that I selected the most orange brick they have available. I drove all over Michigan taking pictures of houses that used specific brick. I used that source to make my choice and the brick on my house is not the same brick I took pictures of. It's not even close to the pictures on the brick manufacturer's website, Brickcraft. The brick pictured online is brown and my house is orange. They just don’t care about the product they are delivering. The contractors did not speak highly of them as builders. The plumber quit in the middle of the job. Then another plumber came in and did things wrong. Communication is very poor. I kept hearing from the contractors that the builder didn’t tell them this or that detail. For example, the painter started priming things that were to be stained. The front door is suppose to look like wood. It looks like a door painted dark brown. Too many mis-communications to write about. I was told I was going to go and tag my kitchen counter tops at the store. That didn’t happen, the counter tops just showed up installed but I still have to pay for them. I requested a certain shower door but a different one was installed. I requested round toilets but elongated was installed. (Plumber wasn't told.) They did change them out. A contractor told me he wouldn’t be there as he had to meet with his parole officer. Are those kind of people you want working on your biggest investment?? You are better off being the general contractor yourself. They did not add any value as builders. I was told the contractors would have a porta-potty. They never provided one. My house was one big bathroom to the drywall team. Many nights I would show up after the contractors left and the doors were left unlocked and all the lights left on. Nobody cared about anything. It was very time consuming to check up on things every night. It is very difficult to find a review of this builder online which I find interesting. Also not an accredited BBB company!! I now have to hire another company to fix all the bad choices made. Yes, I admit I made the choices and signed off on them but when you explain to a builder what you are looking for they usually are knowledgeable enough to provide a product close to what you are looking for. That has been my experience in the past. Buyer Beware!! - builder samples are very different from materials used. Overall, poor customer service and no attention to details. It was a very expensive mistake hiring this builder.
