We are a family owned business serving the metro Detroit area for over 20 years. Danny Vanderlip started as a young man trying to make a living by upholstering furniture in Papa Vanderlip’s garage. At 20 years of age, Dan was especially young as upholsterers go. He had to ensure his work was exceptional in order to earn the trust of his customers, the respect of his peers and begin to build a good foundation for a business. As the reputation of Dan’s excellent craftsmanship spread, more and more people were making the decision to bring their fine furniture to him. In response to the high demand, Dan together with his wife, Linda, opened up their first shop in Detroit. Afterwards, the Vanderlips moved to their well-known location on Whittier, and bought out their largest competitor, A & C Upholstery. One move later, Vanderlip Upholstery is now located on Harper in St. Clair Shores where they have been since 1997. The vendor provided new padding to each chair. He also recommended several places to buy material, rather than going through him, saving money. The finished product was beautiful.

This company was fantastic. We had purchased the leather for our chair and brought it to the shop. They were friendly, courteous, and the workmanship was superb. We were told one week and it was done in two days. We have lived close to this business and never knew it was there. Thanks to Angie's list we found a place we will return to over and over and also tell all our neighbors about. Thank you Linda, my husband is sitting in his favorite chair again. You did a great job on our cushion. The chair looks like new.

Chair was done beautifully. I had a hard time picking out a fabric, but they were extremely helpful and the shop had lots of fabrics to choose from.  The one I ended up with cost much more per yard that I had anticipated paying, but I was very satisfied with the end result.  End result was  professional in appearance.
As for the couch cushions, they were also done well.  They are much firmer than the other coushions on the other part of the sectional, but that is good since they good the most use as they are in the part of the sectional that faces the TV.

They had a large selection of fabrics and were very helpful in answering questions.  We narrowed it down to a high-grade CF Stinson pvc-free fabric.  We were allowed to take the samples home which was very helpful in making our final color decision.  We then set up an appointment for them to come out to place our order, pick up the sample book as well as the stools and chairs. We gave a 50% deposit and were told the work should be done in about 2 weeks.  The quality of their work was fabulous and we will go back for more work.  The only reason I didn't give an "A" was that it took about 5 weeks until they were delivered, not two weeks.

The store is loaded with fabric swatches for custom work, or repair, although the place is only moderate size. There is parking in front on a wide street. A nice job and the new cushion extends the life of my couch, which is another way of saving money.

HE DID A TREMENDOUS JOB. I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH HIM. THIS MAN IS VERY ARTISTIC. HE SHOWED ME THE DESIGN HE WAS GOING TO DO FIRST, AND EVEN EXPLAINED IT TO ME. HE CUSTOMIZED THE CHAIRS TO FIT MY NEEDS.
