Difficult time getting clear comminication with contracted service providers

"I'm surprised at the poor grade we received from this customer. I personally responded to all of his communications (usually email) in a timely manner. The only complaint I heard about any service provider was for the place where he selected his materials (plumbing fixtures, laminate counter-tops, etc.) and that was his choice, not mine. There was a miscue with one of the bathroom vanity top which was cut wrong by the fabricator, but we went to the trouble of temporarily hooking up this sink while we waited for the replacement. There was also a problem with a leak at the kitchen sink a few weeks after the project was complete, but I had that taken care of within a day of the customers call. There was some difficulty working around the homeowners schedule, and a degree of indecisiveness on his part, but nothing new or unusual to this business. I can't help but feel that the C grade was unfair. Dave"

Our kitchen remodel went very well. There were a few hiccups along the way, and in every case, whether the issue was Rockwood's fault or not, they quickly addressed the issue. When a cabinet arrived damaged, it caused Rockwood to have to make many more trips to our house, and they did not charge any more for the extra trips. All of the workers were extremely professional and respected our home. Rockwood was not the low bid, but I think they were the right choice!

We were very pleased with Rockwood Construction Overall. Dave Gridley and Bob Sorensen are very professional and great to work with. This was a large project which started in September 2014 and finished in January 2015. We had to remove load-bearing walls and move heating/cooling ductwork and they did a great job. We were also very pleased with the extensive work that the electric employees did for the project. We had not done any remodeling prior to this, so we did not know what to expect. Obviously, there are things that go wrong for every project, but any issues we had were resolved.
Our project included:
New Flooring, new cabinetry, new countertops & backsplash, new sink/faucet, all new appliances, enlarge and bump out existing laundry room, add wainscoting woodwork to dining area, move and reinstall all old cabinetry to garage, add new sink in garage, new woodwork/coat racks etc in laundry room, sanding/painting of banister, all new lighting fixtures.
We were also pleased with the team of people that Rockwood employs to do the demolition and finished carpentry. We would use this company again for future projects.
Our project included:

I happened to come home while the windows were being installed. They were NOT custom windows. The carpenter was adding 2X4's to the openings to make the windows fit. When asked about this I was informed that there had been a mistake in measuring. (three times???? really????)
Carpenter offered to do some extra work for me and made it sound like he had extra time that day.
Owner showed up a day later to collect money for the work that the carpenter did. An extra $200 plus on what was already been charged.
Windows have never worked properly.....especially for cleaning purposes. Not following up on this portion would be my fault, but I was so upset about the rest of the work that I never pursued the issue.
The additional benefit of all this was that I had a squirrel in the house for a couple of days until I was able to coax it out a window.

"I was quite dismayed to get this negative review pertaining to a project we completed more than 8-1/2 years ago. So, I pulled the job file to see if I could get some clue as to exactly what went wrong. The invoice for the windows shows that we purchased and received custom size windows. That doesn’t mean they weren’t ordered wrong, but if [member name removed] wanted us to reorder the windows, I have no memory of it. Here’s what I do recall: I was told by my carpenter that after the windows were installed, [member name removed] had him do some additional work and that she was informed as to the cost. of this work. When I went to collect, [member name removed] told me that she believed the additional work was a freebie, so I offered to deduct those charges, but she insisted on paying. It’s clear there were communication issues between my carpenter and the customer. Sadly, though he had been with me for 8 years, his employment was terminated about a year later for reasons somewhat related to this project The windows were Andersen Woodright windows, a good quality window. If I had known there was a problem with their operation, I would have had my suppliers service department follow up….and, even at this late date will attempt to do so. When I contacted Rockwood Construction based on previous AL reviews, Dave was quick to schedule an appointment to review our needs and gather information for an estimate. Initially we considered remodeling both kitchen and bath, but decided to start with the kitchen first. The estimate from Dave was itemized and easy to understand. Rockwood came in on budget and completed the work in a very timely fashion. They offered a creative solution for our bench and even came back to redo it when we were not satisfied with the width of the seat. I have no complaints with Rockwood and would recommend them to my Mother! As a matter of fact, I need to call Dave back to give me an estimate to finish our basement this winter.

Excellent. Rockwood did a great job. Dave help us through the whole process and worked with both us and our bank. Very easy to deal with, never had any issues with their team OR their subcontractors. Wouldn't have changed anything about the experience. Our family home turned out great. 15 years later, they're workmanship is still holding up well, house has been great.

Rockwood was one of only 2 companies to even return our call. They were responsive and came right out for an estimate. From there we scheduled the work. They were very responsive and contacted me each week with what the schedule would be and who would be coming and when. The project took a few weeks with the various jobs to be completed. We were very satsified with job and was finished on time and on budget. They cleaned up each evening and were very respectful of our house and time.
I would definately recommend them and use them again myself for future projects.

We have used Dave and Jeff before and recommended them to others who have been happy with their work. They may not be the cheapest, although I feel their pricing is very competitive and we got several estimates up front the first time we hired them. But we especially value their honesty and commitment to do the right thing.
Example: When their tile guy installed our random-size-glass-circles tile backsplash so you could see the one-foot square grid of sheets of tile - he failed to integrate the sheets so you couldn't see where they butted up against each other - Jeff chiseled enough circles out to fix the ugly straight grout lines, and then when their tile guy made a poor job of inserting new tiles, Jeff spent another day ripping them out AGAIN and resetting the glass circles so they look random, as they were intended to look. It's not quite perfect, but it's beautiful and I'm satisfied. (I bet they don't use that tile guy again for circle tiles.) Our porcelain wood-grain tile floor is beautiful, our cabinets are beautiful, and though they took a little longer to finish than they originally planned, we felt they kept moving as quickly as possible.
They also put in an egress window in our basement family room just last week, the work was fast and looks great.

Project started on time and we made good progress initially. Ran into some snags from the supplier for the ledgestone and fireplace (fireplace had a defective feed tube which took some time to figure out). Also, the mason took longer than they estimated to install the ledgestone. We had a few communication issues, but with some patience all was completed and we were VERY happy with the result!!
The work done with the ledgestone by the mason, Fred, took ten days, but it is a work of art. So beautiful. The electrician also did a super job, rerouting cables and running stereo wiring through the room.
The guys worked hard, made sure everything was to our satisfaction and dealt with challenges from running Pipe from the new fireplace and a couple of other unexpected wrinkles.
The result is really great and we have enjoyed our new living room IMMENSELY!

I had two different experiences. Where I know I am "nit picky", I'm spending my hard earned money and want things done correctly. The owners of Rockwood Dave and Jeff are fantastic. As a matter of fact, Dave's overall demeanor was one of the reasons I chose to go with them, not to mention the price. I had several people quote me prices for ceramic tile install and loved the price I received from Rockwood. I love the tile now that it was installed, but I was frustrated with the installation itself. Some aspects of the install team I felt were unprofessional, some were not. I have discussed my concerns with Dave and Jeff and feel satisfied that my concerns were heard and dealt with. So much so, I hired them a second time to complete the outside work (soffit, windows, etc.) I love love love the gentleman that came to do the work on the exterior of my home. He is very nice, patient and very professional. I love that Rockwood Construction guarantees their work for 2 years. It gives me peace of mind. I would use them again in the future for my next home improvement project.

Went great. They did a very professional job and it looks fantastic. It's a long drywall span, so when some cracks later appeared in the drywall they returned right away to patch them.

I moved to GR last May and bought a condo in June with the clear intention of ripping out the kitchen and putting a new one in. Dave came out to take measurements and discuss the remodel even before I closed. I found Dave very good to work with. The entire scope of what I wanted to do turned out to be way too expensive. He worked with me to downsize the scope and he sharpened his pencil some. I did not get a competing bid so at the end of the day, did I get the best price? I don't know but I felt like it was a fair price based on the quality of the materials and workmanship. Jeff and his crew were very good to work with as the project moved forward. He included some creative ideas and dealt well with unexpected snafus very professionally. Great people to work with overall.

They did an excellent job. I chose them because they were the least expensive, and from the beginnig I had a great feeling about them. Each guy on the team is a real pro. They are perfectionists and do an excellent job. I am extremely happy with them.

Contacted Rockwood to install a number of very large windows in my home. I fired the prior contractor due to poor installation practices and was running out of time to get my windows installed before winter. This company was able to perform the job in 2 days and did a fantastic job, more important, they did the job right from beginning to end. This company is courteous and very respectful of your home and surroundings, they take the time before starting the job to understand what you're looking for in a finished product. I highly recommend this company!

Well, my outdoor pool was driving me crazy. It was expensive and consumes a lot of my time and energy. I wanted to fill it. I called in Rockwood, as usual, they were on the site the next day to look at the project and provided many good ideas on what to do with the "soon to be" extra space. They not only provide ideas, but also listens to your needs. The project is still ongoing, as I have not picked out the "perfect" paver yet. But I am sure Rockwood will work to my satisfaction! This is not the first time I used Rockwood, so are many of my close friends. All with very positive feedback. Dave and Jeff are very responsive and professional!!

I did the destruction first so they came into an empty shell. They just moved everything around so it was kind of nice. They had an excellent time frame so they had a number of people working on different aspects of the job. He had experts in construction and people working in the office so they were good at setting up a time frame. They began and ended when they said they would. They stayed within our budget. It was all very nicely done and it was an excellent experience. There are no complaints and we were extremely happy with them. We are actually planning on doing a deck with them in summer of 2012.
