"I met with [Member Name Removed] to take a look at her deck and provide a quote for power washing the deck. At the time we met she advised me that she has not done anything to the deck since she purchased the house. I looked up on the internet and shows 2019 (4 years ago) the house was purchased. It is unkown how long "before" she purchased the house that any attention was given to the deck. At the time of viewing the deck we had a discussion about the painting of a deck, and the condition of her current deck. In before pic of deck the ends of the deck planks you can clearly see that the deck has exposed (blackened) wood and loose paint shards. I explained to [Member Name Removed] that my power wash would "not" remove all of the paint, only a lot of paint that was loose, and dirt grime and mildew that was present. I in no way shape or form implied that by my service the deck would be ready for paint. In fact I told here that she would still probably have to use a scraper after I was done to prep the deck for painting. I told here that the "only" way to fully remove all of the paint would be to totally "sand" the deck. My job would only make it so she would not have to scrape as much. I have cleaned hundreds of decks, both wood and composite decking material. The pressure used was appropriate, and I continually monitor as I am cleaning to observe if there was anything "damaging" occurring. This did not happen. As I tried to explain to her, when the paint peels off, there is whatever was there before underneath (only now it is more visible). If you look at the before pic you can see that there are indents, as well as exposed "soft" looking end grain on the wood which is black in appearance (which would indicate "rotting". A deck board is normally about 1" in thickness. There is no possible way that power washing that board would make it thinner and unsafe to walk on, unless of course it was rotted an unsafe previous to power washing. I feel that this is an "extreme exaggeration" of the customer to even say this."
