HOEFENER & SONS JEWELRY

My now husband purchased my engagement ring from Hoefener & Sons in April 2009 upon recommendation from a family member.  I was stunned when I first walked into the store - it wreaked of cigarette smoke, most of the jewelry was big-looking and not with current jewelry trends, and the owner was not very professional though nice enough.  We encountered multiple problems with my ring from the get-go; pitting of the gold, the original head/setting cracked, and they messed up multiple times on my wedding band.  It was aggravating beyond words.  It was a relief when we were finally done doing business with them and I was determined to find a more reliable jeweler for future purchases.
It wasn't until just recently that I felt so inclined to take the time to write a review about Hoefener; because my husband and I decided to upgrade my diamond and purchase a new wedding band at a reliable jeweler that we've vetted.  We planned to trade-in my old diamond and apply that to the new balance.  We were stunned to learn that the diamond he had purchased from Hoefener was NOT what he had been told it was and, in fact, was a lesser quality diamond (due to color grade.)  Our trade-in value was significantly less than what we thought it would be based on Hoefener's description and appraisal of the ring/diamond.  We can't help but feel that we were robbed and there's nothing we can do about it.  It blows my mind that this place is still in business; there are so many other better local/private jewelers in Metro Detroit.  Hoefener will never get another penny of our money.
