Guy on the phone told me their rates: $48 service fee, $91/hr labor. So first hour is $139, second hour is $91. Billing is in 15 min. increments @ $22.75/quarter hour. Liked that they were up front about the cost. Gicamo was the person who came. He was on time--finished in 1 1/4 hours. Did a good job. I would use this company again. And request him if he were available.

Didn't go well at all! I don't like to write less than wonderful reviews, but others need to know that, despite many great experiences other have apparently had with Mr Handyman (based on the Angie's List reviews), my experience was unprofessional and unacceptable. I will NOT be hiring them again. I hired them to do three things: install a dog door in the wall, fix a wobbly stair railing, and fix the doorbell that only rings intermittently. First, the handyman who came out told me it wasn't possible to fix the stair railing because it had been installed sloppily, and fixing it would require all kinds of Herculean things and just wasn't really doable. Which seemed kind of hard to believe. Then, he showed me how the dog door I'd bought wouldn't work, because our wall is only 4" deep and the door I'd bought was for a 6" deep wall. This didn't sound right to me, either; I'd done a lot of research before buying this door, and there was never a mention anywhere of needing to know the wall depth prior to purchasing. Because this whole thing didn't seem right, I went online to do a little research of my own while he was working on the doorbell (which did get done), where I found many videos and instructions on how to easily fix a stair rail, as well as videos with detailed steps on how to install my exact dog door in the wall--and one of those steps is to cut the wall piece to fit your depth of wall if it isn't 6" (in other words, the door I bought was fine; it just required a step he didn't know how to do or couldn't do). I could have told him about these instructions/videos, but I'm not interested in someone learning how to do their job in my house. I hire them specifically because they're supposed to be professionals! So I just said, OK, if you can't do it, you can't do it. At the end, he told me the total would be their minimum (which I had agreed to) of the $48 service call fee plus the $91 per hour rate. I told him I wasn't comfortable paying all that, since all he'd gotten done was reinstalling a doorbell. Based on my reluctance to pay the full amount, he agreed I should call the owner, Tom. So I immediately called Tom, and let him know that I understood this did take an hour of their time and I wanted to be fair, but given what happened, paying the full amount really wasn't reasonable. His response was that their minimum was one hour, which was the $48 plus $91, and that's what I needed to pay. (I guess I'm naive, but I was really surprised; any company worth their salt would have apologized for the problems they caused me and tried to work something out. And to be clear, I wasn't at all angry or hostile on the phone.) So I pointed out that I would assume that meant an hour of WORK done. He then very reluctantly asked if I would pay $75. I didn't really think that was a fair result--after all, my time had been wasted, as well, and virtually nothing had gotten done--and I certainly wouldn't have called them out just to do a tiny job like the doorbell, so the hour of their wasted time wasn't my fault. However, I won't waste my time with arguments over things like this, so I just agreed to pay the $75, and did so. After the handyman left, I called Tom back to explain the situation more fully, which had been awkward to do while the handyman was right there. I thought he should know that it was obvious that this man should have been able to do these things. However, Tom wouldn't let me talk, and wouldn't listen to a word I said. He told me I had bought the wrong dog door for our house, and that the stair rail simply couldn't be fixed. He insisted that the handyman he'd sent was an expert who had built 130 houses. I was in the middle of saying I hadn't called to argue with him but to just explain, and he hung up on me! Yes, he hung up. And that was the end of our interaction. Not an impressive experience. No more Mr Handyman for this household.

Because I put up with that cabinet door, every time I would go to the cabinet door instead of it, you know when you push the door to close it suppose to close I had to just slam it to close it and it was because the guy that actually repair it. He said it was because of the inch that was on it, he should have taken the inch from another cabinet that I didn't use frequently and put on it and that's what he did and it works beautiful for me now. I was not happy with their work at all.

Work went well so we scheduled the same service technician do another job the following week. Even though I scheduled and confirmed appointment twice, we found out that they never had scheduled the work on the day they were confirmed. I WAS TOLD BY THE OWNER THAT COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS OCCUR SOMETIMES AND THEY WERE SORRY!
