We purchased the flooring and installation. We were required to pay in full before the flooring was even installed. Many calls were made requesting a call back about the installation date and misc. trim pieces, but no return calls. I paid for delivery and was later told I needed to travel back to their store to pick up trim pieces. I declined and they reluctantly delivered the pieces.
The installation was quick. However, there were 40-50 patches of glue throughout the house. This required a week of phone calls to get addressed. Mainly it took so long because they didn't LISTEN to the phone number we would provide when leaving another message. The clean up was horrible and basically non-existent.
The product itself is fine. It's just the communications are almost non-existent. If you go there to buy product fine. Just plan to install yourself or find your own installer.
Again, I must re-iterate this is NOT the Redford store. This review only pertains to the Auburn Hills location.
Our first floor needed updating and had 4 different kinds of floor (vinyl, tile, carpet, and parquet) that were to be replaced with bamboo flooring. The estimator that came out was friendly enough, but clearly not knowledgable with anything but the most basic of installs. We had a severe dip in our dining room (parquet) that we made it abundantly clear that we wanted fixed. We had no idea how expensive it was going to be which is why we brought out the estimator.
His response was that it was nothing too bad and recommended a subfloor replacement, but that the installer should come out a few days prior to verify that's what was needed. He also told us that floating floors needed raised dividers between every room. Since this defeated the whole point of getting one floor type, we asked for him to quote a nail down or glue down floor, which didn't have those problems.
We eventually got all the materials for glue down floor, but they kept messing up our order, giving us the wrong pricing, forgetting pieces. Really the information we got from them changed daily and with the person we talked to. One time I was in the store (I was the only customer) for literally a 5 minute paper signing to schedule the install and I was there 45 min. because they kept talking on the phone even though there were other people in the back to do that.
Like I said I will leave the install review to the actual installers page, but the estimator, installer's head foreman, and installer ALL said different ways to fix the floor. We didn't even wind up using any of the glue and instead floated the floor. The floor never ended up very level, and in general we are very unhappy with their business. It was so bad at one point we asked if they could just stop the work and get a refund on the installation so we could just have another company do it, but that wasn't an option. They were convinced their company could fix it no matter how many times they sent them out. Their contractors did a very poor job and never got everything looking good.
This was worst experience with a contractor / business we have ever had. Stay away!
We hired Lumber Liquidator from Ypsilanti, MI store (2321 Ellsworth Road, Ypsilanti, MI?) to do our hardwood floor installation and the Lumber
Liquidator's contractor then subcontract our hardwood flooring installation to another unlicensed group of workers through Craig List.As I was chatting, with two of the workers came to do the installation and they told me that this was the first time that they do hardwood floor installation and they were hired through Craig List. I was so shocked to hear about this from the workers.
Days later, I called Lumber Liquidator Ypsilanti Office to file a complaint and the office told me that they don't have any control over their contractor hire who to do the work, as long as their contractor is licensed.
The nightmare was, on top of that, the Lumber Liquidator contractor never called us to check for the work from those subcontractor that hired from Craig List (no license)..and until today, there are still unfinished touch up work left..This is unreliable and unacceptable from a company like ?Lumber Liquidator?.
Pros (+)
(+) Excellent showroom/generally good experiences in the showroom with the sales associates
(+) Competitive financing available (0% for xx months)
(+) Lumber Liquidators organized installation/work closely with third party contractor
(+) Slight price/quality advantage over the big box stores
(+) Good return policy
Cons (-)
(-) You must organize pick up/delivery of the flooring on your own (with bamboo the flooring must acclimate to your house several weeks before installation - so plan to make room for several boxes of flooring)
(-) Can be long lead times for flooring to arrive
(-) We've seen some issues with the installation, where we have boards separating or large gaps between near the walls appearing as the floor moves (more so than what we expected/were able to cover with baseboards...)
Lumber Liquidators is definitely a competent company that with excellent product selections/availability.
If not for a few installation hiccups or frustrations in the store, we would definitely give them an "A".We noticed soon after installation that the finish started to flake off when ANYTHING was dropped on it. I have lived with hardwood floors my whole life. In the past, if i dropped anything heavy then it would either scratch or dent the floor. Things that would normaly scratch hardwood floors would cause this flooring to flake off. I tried to go the normal channels and file a complaint, which they responded that it was my fault/misuse. I explained that we do not run a business in our home or even wear our shoes in the house....it didn't matter, it was our fault. I finally sent letters to the corporate offices and they sent an inspector out to take a look at the floors. After 6 weeks they came back with, you guessed it, misuse by the homeowner.
I don't usually like to jump on the "it's Chinese so it's crap" bandwagon, but this flooring is clearly sub-par. It's purchased cheaply from China and the finish is either not applied correctly, not set correctly, or its just plain cheap. Start doing some searches online and you will see tons of complaints about Lumber Liquidators. There was even talk about a class action lawsuit.
I will never buy anything from them again. If they offer the best warranty in the world, it's of no use if they don't honor it. Any company can point to the end user and say it's misuse on their part.
Buyer beware.....you get what you pay for.
Customer service was excellent and sales people are very knowledgable.
We have used them before and will definitely return.
