We decided to install an automatic standby generator because of frequent power outages in our wooded locale and because we are frequently out of town with a house sitter caring for our house and pets while we are gone.  We did not want the power, and the water supply, to be disrupted while we were gone and have our house sitter deal with a portable generator that would need continuing attention during a power outage.



Steensma was very prompt in providing an estimate for the cost of installing a generator for our home.  They accurately described how any delay in installing the generator would come from Consumers Energy.  After Consumers installed a new meter, Steensma installed the generator on the date scheduled.  The work was completed in one day.  We paid the price that was estimated.



Ironically there was a power outage the next day.  The generator worked like a charm -- it was nice not to have to walk down to the lake in the morning to get buckets of water to flush our toilets, and to have warm showers before leaving for work.  This outage also happened 3 days before leaving for a trip, leaving us assured that the generator would be working if needed during our absence.

They had to send an electrician out to us. They installed the generator in my garage. They also had to  put in an additional box in case there was a power failure.   The cost was for the generator and the electrician's cost.  They are the only ones in town that carry this brand of generators.

We bought a brand new chain saw from steensma that cost about $500. The first couple of years (probably our fault) we noticed oil in the storage case but thought it was from just sitting and oil leaking from chain. However, in the third years we decided this was way too much oil. We took it in to Steensma and had them look at it. The cost was 60.00 to repair and they told us it was the oiler and they replaced it with a used one for 10.00. I was initally okay with cost. We brought it home ran it and stored it for all of a week and when we pulled it out of its case we found a large amount of oil in the case again. We dedcided to take it to another repair shop. The cost at this repir shop was $25 and they found the oil line had become disconnected. I am thinking it might have been disconnected from the get go. It has run fine ever since.

I received equipment back in timely manner and lawn mower was repaired, however, they relaced the pull cord with a used pull cord and one that was definately shorter than the original and while the equipment does run, I have to expend an enormous amount of energy (pulls) to finally get it started. The cord replaced was far too short and cost wise, I felt I was grossly overcharged.
