The work proceeded at a reasonable pace. The talent for the job was average at best. This was a two wire system, with a more complex controller, and it was definitely "out of scope" for the crew sent to do the job. In the course of the work, several poor designs were made on the system, including locating irrigation valve boxes in the front yard of an 1891 historic property (very unsightly). Additionally, the zone design needs to be reworked as the head design was haphazard and wound up with significant overwatering in certain zones. Little care was made to the placements of heads on a roadway, which also will need to be reworked. The biggest problems were experienced when I received the bill. It was more than twice the bid. The only communication from the vendor was that there would be some "additional costs", but absolutely no discussion that the work was completely time and materials based, and that the costs was double the bid. Additionally, the vendor charges a rate for his crew which is approximately twice his competition, and there were numerous discrepencies in the billing. This was overall one of the worst contractor experiences that I have ever experienced.
