When I got my car back it had a severe engine problem it didn't have when I brought it in. As soon as I started it up and left the dealership, the engine light was flashing (which signifies a severe problem) and the car severely shook. I keep my car in very good working order. This problem clearly developed while it was at the dealership. I suspect the car was left outside while it was taken apart and moisture caused the engine problems. Dealership staff claimed to have tested the car after working on it and service staff inspected the car before I picked it up. How a car can have this severe of a problem while at the dealership and not be noticed by professional staff is beyond me!
The biggest problem was the lack of professionalism dealership management demonstrated. The dealership manager was rude, insulting and unprofessional!
"(member name removed) brought his vehicle to Courtesy Ford for body shop repair work on March 9th. The estimate of $4,428.00 for body repair was performed by his insurance company, Geico. The damages were cosmetic only, and the engine compartment and undercarriage were not damaged in any way. The vehicle repairs were authorized by (member name removed) and Geico. The vehicle was still in our body shop when (member name removed) returned to Courtesy Ford on March 16th requesting that the service department take a look at his exhaust manifold. Courtesy Ford had diagnosed this issue previously on October 9, 2014, when Courtesy Ford replaced the right side exhaust manifold. The manifolds were leaking, this can cause a false oxygen sensor reading "check engine code" The customer was given a 10% discount on this work and informed that the left side would also need the same repair. (member name removed)’s vehicle has 160,000 miles on it and this type of repair is not uncommon on higher mileage vehicles. The service department at Courtesy Ford diagnosed (member name removed)’s vehicle again on March 16th at no charge. The repair was not authorized by (member name removed). He stated that a second opinion would be obtained. (member name removed) returned to Courtesy Ford on March 20, 2015 to pick his vehicle up from the body shop. The customer returned to the dealership approximately 30 minutes later complaining about his vehicle check engine light flashing. Courtesy Ford offered to diagnose (member name removed)’s vehicle with the understanding that if it was accident related, we would work with his insurance company Geico to obtain authorization for payment for the repair. If Courtesy Ford was at fault, we would take care of repair at no charge. If unrelated to accident or Courtesy Ford then (member name removed) would be responsible for a one hour diagnostic check of $80.00. Courtesy Ford would need (member name removed) to sign, authorizing the process. At this point (member name removed) would not give us authorization to diagnose the problem. He then expected Courtesy Ford to allow him to keep driving its rental vehicle at no charge. Courtesy Ford informed him that was not our policy and could not provide him with a free rental car. (member name removed)’s claim that his vehicle “developed” a problem while the body shop repaired cosmetic damages to his vehicle is false. We have no idea what caused the "Check engine code" on (member name removed)'s vehicle as we were never authorized to diagnose the vehicle again. It is very unlikely that it was anything done in our body shop. The hood was never removed. Even if the fender was off and Dew or other moisture was exposed this is nothing compared to running through a mud hole in a rain storm or driving in a down pour. Vehicle engine compartments get wet. Electrical components like plug wires, coil packs and other items lose their resilience to moisture with age and heat cycling. After 160,000 miles it's not uncommon to need replacement. At this time we feel we owe (member name removed) no reimbursement or compensation of any kind. Sincerely, Keith Parmer General Manager Courtesy Ford"
