Growe by the Yard

This Landscaping project started in July 2017, and lasted through August, it was comprehensive. Ron told us that most of the flowers and everything that was planted would come back, every season, once the weather got nice in May, I realized the flowers and most of everything never came back. I texted Ron, he immediately turned on me in May of 2018, and blocked me, then deleted my iPhone number, I was shocked, I called from my land line and we talked, he said he had a bad day, and he would come out on Sunday, 5-27 to look at it, which he did. Ron told me he could get to the replanting in a week, and it would cost $500 to $1000, which was a concern, but I felt trapped and misled. Just recently, I texted him one message about when he thought he could come back, as he had to manually add me back in to his iPhone, he got extremely moody, and made an extremely unprofessional comment over text, which I still have as proof. He is a loose canon, he also immediately blocked me again, and won't take calls, causing me to go to all extremes, AG, BBB, and Angie's List. Please be careful when looking for these services, his name is Ron Growe.

They did a nice job.

Ron is personable and likeable and the two helpers he had worked like crazy!  So great I tipped them both.  That is where my satisfaction ends.  His communication was poor, I almost didn't hire him initially because he didn't call when he said he was going to.  He called a week later and apologized, saying "it was hot."  So?

The quality of work was poor, I don't know what his trainig or qualifications are (should have asked).  The top of the retaining wall is uneven and soil will certainly wash out, so at some point it will have to be redone, I've already had it looked at by other contracters who just shake their heads in disbelief.

The area he added topsoil to had 8 small trees in it and without protecting the trunks of the trees, they all began to die.  Two had to be removed and he replaced them with one from another area of the yard.  I bought trunk protectors, he dug the dirt away from the trunks and told me I could put the plastic sheaths on and put the dirt back in place.  Never bought me a replacement bush or shrub.
In my vegetable garden he trompled on my onions and never bought replacement bulbs.

There was an evergreen bush that we removed.  I did a lot of the prep work to save a few bucks, so all he had to do basically was remove the stump but he charged me full price.  Then there was a large depression in the ground where the bush came out and instead of building it up with topsoil he planted the new bush at least a foot below ground level.  When I asked him about it he said it looked low but it's really not.  Then he later said that was good because it would catch the rain water and the new plant needed lots of water.  My neighbor took it out added lots of topsoil and replanted it, thank goodness.

He doesn't always call or show up when expected, and as stated in another review, he's not shy about asking for more money, but slow to reimburse for expenses that he should have incurred.  Slow as in never.  In my opinion he is unreliable, unprofessional and his qualifications are suspect.  I would not hire him again.

I didn't like anything about it.  He brought 2 other people with him and these people were lazy to say the least.  He did quite a bit of the work, but he is not a landscaper in my opinion, he did not know exactly what he was doing.  He did not estimate what he was going to spend for rock, it took a lot more rock than he thought he would.  Where he got his rock from was quite a distance.  He was eating up his time and money in transportation and gas, he hired 2 guys who were not much help at all and it took too long.  It took 3 days to get the job done that should have been done in a day and a half.  He basically thought he did  wonderful job.  Surprisingly even though he quoted me a given price when we were sitting down he actually asked me for more money.  I was like do you think you did something wrong maybe, he thought he was just fine and everything was right.  I told him he had lazy people and it took 3 trips to get eh stone, it's not my fault.  He's not a business man, he's not experienced, not knowledgeable and certainly doesn't understand that  firm quote does not mean you come back and ask for more money.  If you make a mistake you take the loss.  It was uncomfortable and I paid an awful lot of money for something that shouldn't have cost that much money and should have been done more quickly.  The job got done adequately, but it wasn't efficient or professional.  This is just someone who thinks he's a landscaper and he's not. 

Everything turned out well, we didn't have any problems with their service.

I contacted Ron through Angie's List recommendations. He came out and spent about an hour going over the entire yard front and back in order to get a sense of what we were looking for. Basically, we asked him to restore with some rearrangement the existing landscaping on one side of the front yard. This included new sod, some new plants and the rearrangement of existing plants. He also provided a separate estimate to remove some overgrown shrubs and the broken uneven front walk. We accepted both estimates. Ron is very easy to work with and accepted my micromanaging with a smile! We love our new front yard and we've received a number of compliments from our neighbors. We plan to have him back in the future to work out some issues with the landscaping in the back yard.

Ron absolutely exceeded my expectations in the work he did to our front, side and backyard. I had no idea it could be transformed to a beautiful yard that we can now be proud of. He came up with so many great ideas and then just made them happen. We are thrilled with our beautiful yard now. If you need some help and are not sure what to do to make your yard look better, Ron can truly help! I highly recommend him.

The quality of work and service that I receive from them is spectacular. They are very professional and detail orientated. I think it's a fairly big job to do and it looks very nice when it s completed. Everything looks clean and new again when they are finished.

THEY SET THEIR OWN TIME SO WHEN THEY THINK THAT IT IS TIME TO FERTILIZE FOR THE MONTH, THEY JUST COME OUT AND DO IT. I PAY ONLY BY THE SEASON. THEY ARE VERY POLITE AND WILL DO OTHER THINGS FOR ME IN THE LAWN IF I ASK THEM TO.
