I hired Welsh & Sons to repair an exposed wire and help figure out why some switches were no working in my basement. The repairman Joe was not able to identify a the root cause on the basement light switches without moving our dryer out of position, so I asked him to hold off on that until I could do so later. He did make some repairs to connect wires so it should work after the dryer switch could be investigated later. The larger issue was the exposed wire. Joe had to tear into my wall near a register to get to the wire that had been punched with a nail. The issue arose with the slow speed of the repair. Joe likes to talk (which is OK, he is very nice), however, he likes to retell stories over and over. In this case he must have slowly retold how he thought the builder must have accidentally created our issue no less than eight times. In all, I probably paid for an extra hour of labor (~$80). In the end, a piece of tape was wrapped around the wire that had been pinched. I was then left to sweep up the mess. I've included a photo of the wire repair after I repaired the drywall. I also ended up getting charged double by Welsh & Sons. I had to call back to get a reverse charge which Stacey would not process without a copy of my credit card statement. She claimed to have no way to know that they charged me twice until the end of the month when she was mailed a statement. It was clear from her tone that I had annoyed her with my questions about why this was necessary. I'm pretty sure she didn't understand which one of us was more inconvenienced by the other.

The work was done well. It's a mom & pop shop, so scheduling was a little challenged.  They were pretty laid back.  The price was fair and they did a good job.

We were purchasing a home that had been unoccupied. The city would not turn on the electricity until it had been inspected. We contacted Welsh & Sons, the agreed to do the inspection for $150. Their inspection revealed some minor issues with the fuses and for an additional $225 they fixed them. The city electrical inspector found additional issues. Mr Welsh then went AWOL in some meetings and for several days was not answering his phone. We had no idea what the issues found were, or how serious they were. It was very stressful. Once he surfaced we found it was another small issue directly related to the work he had done. The work was completed at no additional charge to ourselves.
Then we had a home inspection. The home inspector said that the electrical box showed signs of rusting and would have to be replaced. Essentially we will have to replace all of the work he did because of an underlying and much more serious issue that he didn't find while working on the electrical box! The was also an additional issue found outside of the home.

He lied to me. He said he doesn't bill me, he just turns in the work and then it is based on the work done and if an inspector comes out. He robbed me of my money. He went in my house and came back out one time. He left his dinner bags in the driveway. He made a mess of the spackling. He stalled the job, so he could rack up the money.
