KLS HOMES & IMPROVEMENTS

First, Scott is very friendly, and he's open to discussing ideas. However, the addition his company put up is a regular problem. To begin, the project was supposed to take three months, but it ended up going on for seven months. We never knew when workers were coming, and we'd sometimes go days, a couple times weeks, without seeing anyone. Other times, a guy would come in, unannounced, and work on the same part of a door jam for weeks. More than once I had to call and seriously pressure Scott to get anyone out here (after these calls, his calendar would miraculously open up). The plumbing was awful. Even after the job was "complete," plumbers had to come out to fix what they'd done. We actually had a second water heater installed, as we didn't get enough hot water. After installation, another plumber noticed that the first one was hooked up incorrectly (this was a $1000 mistake that I completely blame KLS for). Later, it was discovered that his excavator had damaged a sewer line, which was trickling sewage into the backyard. In addition, the light switches are terribly installed; the covers don't entirely cover the holes on several of them. Finally, the paint job is amateur. It began peeling immediately, and it's now so bad that we'll probably need to call a professional to redo it. Do not hire this company. They will say "yes" to everything, but they will not deliver.

We had Scott's company come in to do all of the above repairs to help bring some major value to our house. Our house was built in 1928 originally and when we purchased it, it was in need of many things to update it as it looked like the last time the house had been updated was in the 60's. Due to some of the weird ways our house had been added on over the years, the windows and doors were not a standard install and required a little more manipulating than a standard house that's newer. KLS came in and installed all of these windows and doors and sealed up a lot of air leaks that we had in the past. I'm sure our house is much more efficient now due to these things alone. During the project I asked KLS if they could rebuild our stairs that go to the second story because the original person that made them only used nails and thin boards so they creaked and made loud noises when you walked on them. They brought in thicker boards, screwed them down and glued them and they are perfectly silent now. I also asked them if they could repair a roof leak that we had. We previously had a company put on a new roof about 3 or 4 years prior to fix a roof leak we had then. Unfortunately, that previous company did not repair the leak for long so I asked KLS to take a look at that. They added more flashing that the previous company had blatantly missed. These two items were not part of the original project but they did them for us anyway and did a good job. Next they ripped off all the aluminum siding we had that was really old, dirty, and faded. They wrapped the house and put up new vinyl siding. While they were doing that they put up soffit on the front and back porch to clean up the look. Between all of those things the house looks amazingly different now. It's like a new house.
