"[removed member name] Thank you for sharing your experience with other Angie's List users. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you in the future and remember that Custom Fence Company installations are backed with a lifetime workmanship guarantee. Thanks again and have a great 2014! Regards, The Custom Fence Company Crew"
Initially, setting an install date/time was a series of never-ending emails and phone calls. We assume that because we did not purchase the fence from Custom, we were considered 2nd class customers. This was evident as we were given an install date and no one showed up.
During the first day of project, one of the installers became rude with a family member.
On the second day of install, their crew broke a sprinkler water line. Although they did pay for repairs, there remains a huge dirt pile barren and grass.
After complete, we found multiple examples of inferior workmanship including...
1 - a section of fence where nails from one side were dangerously protruding out the opposite side.
2 - multiple sections were not level.
3 - multiple sections were not secure, and could be significantly 'rocked' by hand in either direction - more so than needed for wind flexibility.
4 - Most recently, we went to open the front gate of the fence and it fell off the support pole.
Photos were taken of all the above instance of poor workmanship.
Finally, when we wanted to finalize the project and settle payment with the company, the owner became rude and left unprofessional/threatening voice mail.
Given the above, we would have selected a different company and would not endorse Custom Fence Co for any future projects.
"Custom Fence Company values all feedback from our customers. We did install this customers material with the mutual agreement that we would not be held responsible for any "bad material" such as warped posts or fence panels. Our original start date was delayed by much needed rain, so we were forced to push the installation back to the following week. Upon our first visit we found that 7 of the posts that the customer had delivered by a big box store were severely warped. My installers left the job site and exchanged the posts for posts that were not warped. We did not charge the customer for this. Following completion the customers wanted to meet with me which we did quickly. They were concerned with an area of the fence that looked bowed. This was due to posts bowing after installation. Despite our agreement that did not hold us responsible for warped material, our installers went back and removed and replaced 3 additional posts at no cost to the customer. I showed Michael the warped posts so that he would understand why they saw the bowing in the line and he agreed that the post was very warped. During that visit we also damaged a sprinkler line. Unfortunately that sometimes happens where sprinkler lines are not marked and the customer did not have knowledge of the location of the lines. Again, our contract states that we are not responsible for damage to underground utilities or sprinkler lines. However, once again we handled hiring a professional sprinkler company to repair the damage and did not charge the customer for this. With regards to the nails protruding from the panel, the nails were driven by the company that manufactured the panels, not by our installers. This was never mentioned to me by the customer. I noticed it during one of our meetings and told the customer that we would correct the manufacturers issue, we did so with no charge to the customer. The gate issue was also corrected immediately. We had several meetings both in person and via phone with this customer. We treat all installations with the same diligence regardless of style, price or who purchases the material. We install several miles/year of similar styles of fence and have thousands of very satisfied customers. We would be happy to provide any potential customers who may be reading this with as many references as you would like. Our job is not done until our customers are happy and that has been our motto since 1975. I would still like to do anything that I can to satisfy this customer as well. Thank you for reading and good luck with your upcoming fence projects."
