Scott worked so hard, and did a beautiful job. They were very professional and had a great deal of expertise. They were able to answer any questions, even after the job was done. They were just wonderful.

Fabulous! Grassroots built my pond in 2000. I was impressed at the point of installation as to the CRAFTSMANSHIP of the project. The fact that I did not require any service for 13 years is testimony to the quality of construction. I had recently experienced some leaking and asked Grass Roots to determine the problem. Once again, I was amazed by the detail of initial inspection to figure out where the leak(s) were occurring. First, Scott Bates ( Craftsman Extraordinaire) and his assistant, Danny, explored the entire diameter of the pond to ascertain whether or not the liner had slipped down. It had not. Next, they found that some and quot;repairsand quot; made by a person I had previously hired had changed the levels of flow of water and caused a leak from the filter. I knew that there was leaking from the streambed, because I had tested it. They rebuilt the entire streambed, with such attention to detail that I was astounded. Next they filled the pond and waited overnight to see if any water was lost. Success - no loss of water. The second day was spent CLEANING the pond. They power washed the entire pond and vacuumed up remaining water and soil. The pond has been returned to absolute beauty and efficient functioning.
Many of us have joined Angie's List because we are frustrated as to the lack of true craftsmanship and honesty within the general contractor community. Scott Bates of Grass Roots is truly a craftsman. His knowledge about nature in general, as well as fish and plants in particular is impressive. He is truly a scientist! He also teaches classes about water gardening.
If you want to build a pond, or want help with an existing pond, this is THE contractor for you. You can also visit their site to purchase a variety of fish and aquatic plants, as well as numerous products associated with water gardening.. Be sure to check out their colorful chickens, too.
A note to Angie's list ... this provider should have a listing associated with it called Pond Creation (Building). Repair and Advice (or something that allows the choice of Pond.. Currently there is no appropriate heading. Right now the only choices are excavation and landscaping. The name of Grass Roots Nursery is misleading - they used to sell perennials and trees.
