The ech tried to tell me that I needed $1,600 worth of work. He said my floor drain was cracked, and they needed to tear up my basement floor to install a new one. He **demonstrated** this by using the 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 main sewer-line snake on this floor drain with his foot on it and said it should catch. I thought the snake was way too large for the drain. I absolutely refused his offer to do this. After he left I put baking soda and vinegar down the drain and it cleared right out. It did not need a $1,600 new floor drain, it just needed drain cleaner. This was Sat. 1/18/2020. Today, 1/20/2020 I had a plumber from a different company who was previously scheduled to fix my shower and I told him about my experience. He went down and looked. He said everything looked great after my homemade drain cleaner. He also confirmed Metro Detroit was trying to use too large of a snake on that drain. Todays plumber said that you can just use a plunger or another option was there was a laundry sink near by and they could have put a $100 access in there to clean it out. So there were so many other options other than tearing up my basement floor. The other thing Metro Detroits tech tried to tell me was there was this foam you could put down the main sewer line to destroy the roots, but it had to be done by someone who was licensed (him, but he did not have the product on him). The plumber who came today debunked that too - no license needed. It felt to me that someone was trying to take advantage of a single woman. On the positive side, Metro Detroit did come quickly on a Saturday, and they did identify that the problem was the floor drain in front of the laundry sink.
