On 4/16/2014 for $1600 in materials and $1600 in Labor my wife and I agreed for Shamrock Roofing to do the following: Shamrock Roofing Shyamantak Ghotane Ann Arbor, MI 48103 734-368-3060 1) Install vinyl soffit and aluminum facia on entire house. 2) Install 30 year shingles on porch. 3) Remove gutters. 4) Install seamless aluminum gutters on entire house. 5 Inspect entire roof. * All work is warranties for 10 years with lifetime warranty on all materials The agreement was that we would pay 50% to start and 50% at completion. I was taking off work the week of construction because Sham said it would take two days and we needed to make access to the house available. Since he claimed to have two crews to draw from this did not seen undoable. He also claimed to have another crew working on a $75,000 job nearby. Sham provided is with a hand written receipt which we later discovered was on a different companies letterhead (Allied Building Products Corp.). On 4/20/2014 we gave Sham a $1600 check to get the work started. So that he could order supplies from Wimsatt. On 4/23/14 Sham showed up with the person he claimed was his partner Chad Everett of C Everett Roofing and his one man crew Dave. After a roof inspection that did not include an interior review we were informed the next morning that we should consider a full roof replacement for $7000. We could not afford a complete replacement at the time so asked what the problems were. Sham and Chad indicated the following was needed to ensure proper ventilation for which we paid an additional $600. 1) Remove ridge vent and caps. 2) Replace ridge vent. 3) Replace 30 year caps. 4) Install soffit vents. This money had to be paid immediately so they could keep working. I ran to the bank and Sham was not going to give me an invoice as a receipt for the payment. I pressed the issue and at that point he called to his "Partner" Chad if he could get a contractors invoice from his truck. He then gave me a hand written receipt on a blank Contractors Invoice form which I now discover he for some reason post dated to 5/4/2014. Three days later Sham was asking me (in front of Chad) for another $200.00 for extra material costs. I felt I had no other choice because by this point they had chopped up my house and were still a long was from having this completed. During this entire construction the crew would randomly show up all the while leaving the yard strewn with materials and tools. Leaving ladders leaning against the house and disappearing (sometimes for days). I spent a majority of my time at home from work trying to track people down because they did not even have the courtesy and professionalism to let me know what was happening. It was while trying to find Sham that I remembered that Chad had a company named C Everett roofing. I called him because Sham had blocked my calls. Chad to his credit answered the phone. It was at this time that I learned that the arrangement Sham had with Chad was that they would work for each other on occasion but Chad was saying he was not Sham's partner. This was news to us because all conversations with Sham were that Chad was his partner. It took more than a month and the work was never finished. We were at one point were we were told everything was completed but the caulking. I called both of the guys for weeks to have them caulk seal the house. Sham blocked calls and Chad was telling me that Sham knew he wasn't a caulker and he was to busy now to finish our job. Chad did say that if his painters had a moment he would send them over to finish. It was never done. Because of all the issues I had a friend that is a building inspector check the work. Here is what was found: Chad did the trim work and installed the soffit vents. *The soffit vents were installed without any ventilation as the baffles were not installed. No improved ventilation. *Roof vents should have been recommended by Sham but Chad behind a "licensed roofer" should have known. *No interior inspection of the roof was done. *None of the caulking was done. Sham did the roofing. *The roof vent did not need replacement and the replacement was put in incorrectly. It was way too tight. *A tear off was not done when roofing as we agreed for over the porch. He put a third level of shingles on in violation of local codes. Ultimately both Sham and Chad disappeared without finishing the work and I had to hire another company to come in and repair all the damage this "duo" did to my home. I had seriously considered suing them both. I had the inspector and new company take pictures of all the damage that was caused prior to the final repair and will not hesitate to share my poor experience with anyone and everyone I can. It's people like this that give contractors a bad image and make them hard to trust.
