Mike provided a detailed estimate for the project and we agreed on what purchases I could make on my own (toilet, vanity, counter top, bath fixtures, sink fixtures, ceiling fan). I was to pick out tile from a local company. Mike ordered the shower door, window and supplies.
Demo was completed in a day and was not really that bad- most of the dust was contained by plastic sheeting and floors were protected by paper. They kept the area as clean as possible by vacuuming the area regularly. Mike would text or phone most days to let me know what to expect. The tile installer brought the tile order with him. It was obvious he took pride in his work. The electricians and carpenters were also good. When the shower door seemed too short, Mike made it right. He was also very patient with all of my questions. The result is a beautiful master bathroom. I recommend Romana to friends who want a low stress construction experience that is done right at a reasonable price.
The company came out on the day promised... Each man had a job and they preformed their job with efficiency and professionalism. They were neat, and polite. They took all trash with them, even going so far as to sweep up the street after themselves.
A follow up call when the job was complete thanking us for our business was icing on the cake. These guys do a great job and we would recommend them to anyone wanting a job done right!
The crew you could tell have worked together for a long time. They tore out my driveway and put in the mold as well as the rat wall for the slab in one day. They were at my door promptly at 7:30 a.m., all the workers were personable, cleaned up before they left and were very good at what they do. They all answered my questions when I had them. I was very impressed and very lucky that I picked Romana! The neighbors have come down after the concrete was poured to tell me how nice a job they did. Many asking for business cards.
Mike was always accessible, if I had a question I would call and receive a response back almost immediately. He always said, "if you change your mind or think of anything else please call me." The workers who came to do the garage were again, exceptional, all very good at what they did, and hard working as well. They made the garage look like my house so much so, that you would have never guessed I lived without a garage for 25 years. The neighbors have all stopped by to step inside the new garage and look at the fine workmanship.
My driveway makes my house look brand new. It is perfect and I could not be happier. The crew again cleaned up when they were here and before they left I thanked each and every one for their hard work and nice job. I only wish I did this sooner. I highly recommend ROMANA to everyone. If you want cement, a garage, walkway, electrical, siding, etc. this is a company that can do it all. Thanks Mike and all the guys for a job well done. My next project, I will be calling on Romana.
I had my driveway replaced in 2009 by Romana Construction. Yellow Jackets were nesting under cement in the gap left when new cement was poured. In 2012 I had to call an exterminator who suggested I fill in gap with dirt to discourage yellow jackets from returning. Since then, I have had a problem with cement rising when ground freezes in the winter. I contacted Mike to see what could be done. Mike did not think the gap at the top of the driveway was the problem. Said he would put control joints in proper locations and fill in crack at bottom of drive and in other locations. Said he should charge me a maintenance fee but would not. He did not write out a work order, but did take pictures he said for my file. I was curious as to where they were going to put the new expansion joints, so I asked Joe when he came to do the work. Joe said they would have to take up existing cement and pour new cement to put in new expansion joints. Joe cut and shaved existing expansion joint. The cuts are uneven with sharp edges (not good for tires).
"I just read this review and called [Member name removed]. my serviceman misunderstood [Member name removed]'s question. it would be no problem to come out and shave vinyl expansion smooth. I called her and left a message so we can schedule the service. Mike Iaquaniello, Romana Construction. 313-220-7411"
The thing that made this a more challenging job is that our backyard has weird elevation issues, and Michael was very consultative about them. I'm pretty sure a lesser contractor could have just glossed over these issues to get the job, which could have been a costly mistake, but Michael was pretty straightforward about the challenges and helped to devise a solution.
I actually delayed making a final decision for a long time before finally getting the work done. But after reading a lot of reviews, I decided to go with Romano, and I honestly could not be more pleased.
His team showed up on time, tore out a substantial amount of old concrete in about as clean a fashion as humanly possible. They poured the concrete two days later (they had to wait a day because of rain), and advised us not to drive on it for 10 days.
Today, we have a totally improved backyard to enjoy. It's honestly hard to believe that all we had done was the concrete.
I highly recommend Romano!
"I called [member name removed] immediately when I read his review. We did miss the measurement of his apron to his garage. It was a measurement of 252 square feet. I saw the estimate the day it was given and new immediately something looked wrong with the measurements. My nephew measured the driveway and has been doing a great Job for us. After I looked over the quote I had him go back out to confirm the measurements. He saw the missed measurement and since [member name removed] was not home he left a note with explaining the mistake and left the corrected estimate. My intention was I wanted [member name removed] to have the correct estimate in front of him before he made a decision about which company to go with. Looking back I wish I would have called Him to explain so he would have understood our mistake. I did meet with [member name removed] after I read his review and saw how he felt. I showed him the missed measurement and offered to split the difference with him. He said he understood. I hope he hires us to do the work because I know he will be very happy with the result. My nephew is learning our family buisness the same way my brother and learned from our father and the way our father learned from his."
together, so over time with contracting it will get worse and worse.
I contacted them over the Winter, they responded right away saying they would come out in warmer weather and inspect the issue. I called again in March and advised that I wanted them not only to look at the cracked pads but potentially repair other areas of my driveway. I was contacted again and advised they would come be last week March and provide feedback on the portion they poured that cracked and look at the entire drive a make repair recommendation and provide a quote. To date I have seen no quote or had an follow up phone calls.
I understand the cement cracks but it should not after 3 years in area that does not get any car traffic. My assumption is they did not compact the ground properly from the start.
So based on this experience I would have to down grade them from an A to a C, for not following thru. I want to install a deck but do not want to on cracked cement, as I am concerned that with more settling over time it will lead to water in my basement in the future. So I will have to shell out a couple of grand for new cement only after only 3 years, very very disappointed.
5/29/2015 - They did finally come out after I called twice and they called me back and apologized. They gave me a quote to repair the crack above along with a few other areas in my drive way. Because I want a deck over the portion mentioned, I can not wait for the crack to widen to have it filled, since once the deck is up the only way to fix in the future would require the deck to be pulled up. So to fix immediately with what they called a v cut they would charge me. I received a quote from another company at a much lower cost to seal the crack so in this case I decided to go with the lower quote.
"I have been out to [Member name removed]'s house. We were waiting for frost to leave the ground. We should have communicated that better to her. She has two very tight hairline shrinkage cracks on her concrete. All the reinforcement that we have in concrete along with crushed concrete base has held concrete just as we would like. Concrete is pitched away from house. We have instructed her to let us know if crack widens to an eighth of an inch and then we would bevel cut it and seam it with our gray polyurethane sealant At no cost."
I would gladly recommend them to anyone else.
