Koenke Floors

It was a phenomenal experience. The attention to detail with all of my concerns was surpassed. I have had too many bad contractors. Koenke floors was professional and courteous. More importantly they got the job done earlier than planned. I strongly recommend Koenke Floors.

end him to anyone.We asked for a satin finish to match our other wood floors. But he instead put down glossy finish topped by flat finish (apparently not realizing what satin finish was). We also were surprised to find out that he doesn't install any dust barriers, instead leaving all of that to us (and even started sanding while we were feverishly trying install plastic to block air vents, etc). He also complained about having to move some of our heavy furniture out of the rooms being refinished, even though we told him at the outset when we asked him for a proposal that we would need him to move the heavy furniture for us. Because the flat finish looked so dull (almost like the floors hadn't been finished at all), we asked him to put another glossy coat on the wood, which he reluctantly agreed to do. When he came the next day, he was clearly ticked off and spoke not a word to us. He also left drips of finish in some spots, but given our bad experience with him, we didn't want to have any further dealings with him. He was very unpleasant to deal with and very unprofessional. We would never recommend him to anyone. Regarding Mr. Koenke's response: This work was done by Mr. Koenke at our house in Michigan, before we moved to our current house in NC. So we have not made a mistake. The facts are exactly as set forth above. Mr. Koenke's son assisted him with moving furniture, and we had told Mr. Koenke in advance that we would need such help. And we explicitly told him in advance that we wanted a satin finish to match the rest of our floors, but that is not what he provided. Mr. Koenke is either being disingenuous, dishonest or has a very poor memory.

We were totally thrilled with the results

The floor came out gorgeous. I don't think it looked this good when the house was built (10 years ago). We also had not done any sort of maintenance on the floor in those 10 years. We had moisture damage by our doorwall, and heavy wear in a few other spots. You would never know after Rich was done. He even added a piece of molding by the front door that the builder had forgotten. Since it was the entire first floor, we had to coordinate somewhere else to stay for the week. We have two high maintenance dogs so that was a challenge. Rich was gracious about the scheduling and rescheduling and was willing to break up the job into phases if that was needed. (In the end we did it all at once.) We generally don't love having contractors in our house when we aren't home, but being able to meet the person who was doing the work beforehand put us at ease, and nothing was amiss when we returned. On request Rich sent pics and texts of his progress during the week. The project was started and completed exactly as scheduled, and the final cost was as quoted. People often complain about the dust associated with floor refinishing. We found a very minimal amount in a few places (kitchen appliances, some that had floated upstairs etc) but considering this is a dusty process even with the latest gear, he did a fine job of cleanup. We had a quote from another larger, well-rated company on Angie's List, but they quoted approx $200 higher using the same products, and the guy who came to the house was definitely a salesperson - I don't imagine he had refinished a floor in his life. Rich, on the other hand, is the whole operation - you can tell he has been doing this for a while, and loves what he does.

I called to arrange a visit to give an estimate for doing all floors in our renovation project. I left a message with a brief description, including all contact information. No one returned our call.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Richard (owner/operator) promptly returned every phone call, patiently answered every question, showed up on time for both the measurement/estimate and actual work appointments, and did an outstanding job on these very old and worn floors. He did exactly what he said he would do, did it well, completed the job on time, cleaned up the work site and did all of it at a better price than quoted by any of the other companies I contacted, all of which were on Angie's list. The price included replacement of a modest amount of hardwood, sanding and whatever else is done prior to applying stain and polyurethane, 3 coats of satin polyurethane (no stain, floors were left natural), and cutting and installation of white quarter-round moldings (which my husband purchased and painted). Although Angie's List says not to include family and neighbor comments, I think that for a service like this they are relevant. Both friends and family had seen the floors prior to the work being done and have seen them now that the refinishing has been completed; their comments mirrored our own: and quot;Wow, I never would've believed those floors could look like this! Rich showed up promptly, got right to it, did a wonderful job and cleaned up nicely. Floors look great!

Richard immediately returned our call. He gave us an estimate on the phone. We asked him to come out and review options. He stated he was busy until the following week, and would stop by or call on Monday. It has been two months and we still have not heard from him.

He was pleasant, but he tried to talk us into doing more work then what was needed and I didn't really like that. He saw that there was wax on the floor and told us that we would need to grind them down and take off all the finish on the floors, but we really didn't need to do that. We just wanted to sand them and put a top coat on them and he said that wouldn't work because of the wax. We eventually had them done and they look great and we didn't need to grind them all the way down, so he wasn't accurate.

Excellent experience. Very professional. Arrived on time, protected areas of the house from dust, with minimal dust noted from the sanding. The floors look wonderful and have received any compliments from friends and family. I am very pleased with the whole experience.

Was the only contractor that would come out in person to give me an estimate for 350 square feet refinishing, staining, and repairs , which I preferred because I had extensive urine damage to the wood in one place and did not want any suprises after the job was started. Richard returned every phone call, showed up on time every day, and stuck to the estimate given. Richard replaced the damaged wood, sanded the floors, stained them with a custom mixed color, and applied 2-3 coats of satin poly. The repairs were perfect and the stain color was exactly what I wanted. I would definitely recommend this company again and will probably use them to refinish the hardwood floors in the rest of the house.

Richard was Excellent! He was always prompt, straight forward, and knowledgeable. I HIGHLY recommend his work. His price was in line with (actually a smidge lower than) several other quotes. I consider myself on the picker side as far as aesthetics are concerned and he exceeded my expectations. Great Job!

Richard Koenke is the guy who runs the company and he was referred to us by our painter. We have an old house and the floors had gone bad. So, he had to remove a lot of the material and I can't believe as to how well it came out. He did a beautiful job. I thought that the price that he charged was reasonable even though we didn't do a lot of comparison shopping. So, the price was fine for the work that he did. The quality of his work was excellent and I didn't have any problems with his responsiveness. He was right on time as well and I would surely use his services in the future, if need be.
