We have used Suburban for a new A/C and most recently a new Furnace. They have been awesome! With our A/C we did run into an immediate issue; they were out almost immediately to fix the concern and had it back up and running in no time. We recently had a new Amana Furnace installed and thus far it has been great! The install team was efficient and professional. Doug has been our serviceman for minor repairs and issues in the past and has also been wonderful. He is very knowledgeable and low-pressure when it comes to repair/replacement options for new units. We were torn on which furnace to purchase and he happily walked my husband through our choices, while answering all of his questions. (Mind you this was after hours on his cell phone!) We happily refer Suburban to our family and friends, as we trust their work and find them professional and easy to work with!
"Found furnace has a bad blower moter this unit has a built in R mod part will have to be ordered will take 1-2 days to come in".
Doug also mentioned he had 18 years in the heating and cooling industry.
I thought the quote sounded high based on what I understood the problem to be. I didn't know what an "RMod" was, but In my mind a blower motor is a blower motor and it sounded like he was proposing something more than that.
I then called Family Heating and Cooling for the same problem. I didn't tell Family anything about the first call. Dan B. of Family came on August 3rd. He identified the needed part as a variable speed blower motor - 10M08 (I presume this is the part number). I paid $89.95 for the trip charge plus $419.50 for the part for a total of $508.95.
I subsequently spoke with the owner of Suburban about what had happened. He explained that Lennox parts aren't as widely availabe as those for many other furnaces. He also explained that while it was possible to purchase a blower motor without the RMOD, the manufacturer recommends that both be installed when making the repair. If the repair person knew this and explained this to me, I may have not been suspicious of the the proposed cost to repair. In the absence of this information I felt compelled to seek a second opinion.
I did very much appreciate the owner investigating this situation and contacting me to explain what had happened.
"I feel the need to respond to this review because it is not an acccurate portrayal of what occured. First off Doug C. does have 18 years experience and is a licensed contractor but works for us. He has no incentive to sell a part as he is paid hourly. " A blower motor is a blower motor" is not true. This Lennox model has a variable ECM motor and a motor module (or RMOD which is a generic term for the module which controls the motor). Doug contacted a local supplier who stated they only had the motor with a built in module. With a 10 year old furnace it was recommended to change both. The price quoted included labor plus the motor and module. The other contactor replaced only the module."
"I am one of the owners and this is not even close to what transpired. On 1/25/12 we received a phone call from the tenant stating they had no heat and they were told by their landlord to call us. We had no prior history with this customer so we informed them we would need a credit card for payment. We tried calling the landlord and got no response. The tenant tried calling as well. Obviously this delayed our service tech for some time. Landlord finally calls with credit card # and is informed of $60 service call/diagnostic fee. Service tech arrives @ 8:00 p.m and finds a dirty flame sensor and a bad igniter. Repairs furnace for $280 plus $60 service call. Tenant signs work order and has heat. I don't know about you but that doesn't seem unreasonable. What was the tech supposed to do? Leave the tenant with no heat on a frigid January night? Unbelievable that a landlord complains about spending $340 after hours to get their tenant some heat. The tech gets double time, then you have a stocked service truck plus gas, workmans comp, medical, liability, overhead etc.We have been in business for over 30 years with thousands of satisfied customers and I take great offense to this report. I did not threaten the customer about removing the Google review. I asked him if he stood behind it because it was not true."
