Luxury Homeowners Beware I strongly advise against using KSI for any high-end luxury home projects. Our experience with them has been a nightmare and we have found the quality of their work to be horrendous. Despite aligning on an initial cost of $217,000 for our kitchen and master bath remodel with an 8 week timeline, the actual expenses skyrocketed due to undisclosed exclusions. We are now in the process of hiring qualified professionals to fix KSI’s many mistakes. The project timeline was grossly underestimated, dragging on for 36 weeks (and counting) instead of the promised 8. Our family moved out of the home for four months as we were told this would expedite the project, yet our home camera system shows the home sat idle for weeks at a time due to KSI measuring and ordering incorrect materials on multiple occasions for the job. Even after all correct supplies were in, the house sat idle for weeks. Our home was damaged by the on-site crews, and communication from KSI was abysmal. From unresponsive email and a lack of project management, to neglecting to notice or care when work was performed incorrectly. Our list of KSI’s shoddy workmanship is long, but to give you a taste of the sort of amateur mistakes they made see below: - [ ] KSI insisted they installed the master bath fan, yet there was not a switch or fan to be found in the bathroom. They finally acknowledged it was not installed, and when they finally did install it, they failed to vent it to the exterior of the home. Instead, the fan vented directly into our attic. - [ ] KSI spec’d all appliances and equipment for the kitchen and master bath. However, the infrared sauna they had us spend $11k on is not approved to be used in Michigan and therefore could not be installed. We now have a big hole in our master bath where the sauna was supposed to be and a very expensive sauna in a box in our garage that cannot be used or returned. - [ ] Incorrectly sized cabinets were ordered and installed in our kitchen. Instead of fixing the mistake (which is NOT a part of our signed off design), KSI left two different cabinet heights sitting adjacent to one another. - [ ] Gaps, fit and finish throughout the kitchen and bath are horrendous. A stroll through the home depot kitchen section demonstrates a level of workmanship far superior to that of KSI. It is hard to understand how KSI has the nerve to market itself as a high-end custom kitchen and bath firm. - [ ] KSI contractor advised us that we were being “raped” by their firm. In the end, top-level executives, including Mike Gregart and Tony Achatz, promised solutions but failed to deliver. Excuses were plentiful, and ownership of problems was nonexistent. The disrespect shown to our home, from damaging areas of the house that they were not working on, to leaving doors open to which we found a bird living in our home and letting the dust barriers fall while continuing to work, reflects KSI's lack of professionalism. Save yourself the frustration and avoid KSI for any luxury home project.

I would have given KSI an 'A' except issue with the first Tile subcontractor guy, named Ghent M. (Do not use him), although he got the tile specs 3 weeks in advance, he showed up at my house and walked off after 5 minutes, refusing to lay tile, saying it was to hard, and I was 'stupid' to buy this type of tile. He refused to wait for me to call KSI to help resolve. Joe P and Jim K at KSI did a outstanding job in finding a new tile subcontractor, Eric, who came next day and laid the tile in 5 hours. Eric did an exceptional job, so ask for him. Tim also did a great job on lights and the countertop installation was excellent too. Joe P at KSI was prime contact and was excellent

Friendly showroom staff; very little pressure. I decided to go with them because they provided installation for a smaller project?bathroom counter (many competitors did not provide measuring and installation even for a fee for a smaller countertop) and I liked the color/shade of the quartz material. The countertop came in early, however the individuals they contracted with for the measuring/removal of the older counter/installation were not top-notch. Excessive clean up required upon their departures. KSI did send one of their quality assurance staff members out to inspect several areas of concern and to clean up excess caulk?he was knowledgeable and professional.

We started out with 5 different contractors for our kitchen
remodeling project and quickly narrowed it down to two designs from two
contractors. Zey Hilla at KSI really
understood what we wanted and it was an easy choice to move forward with KSI. Her design was just what we were looking
for. She was both our designer and
project manager. Zey was there every
step of the way with us during the final design stages and in picking out all
the detail items (i.e. backsplash, paint).
In fact she was often one step ahead of us. Early on we saw that she had a passion for
her design, and also a passion for her clients.
Pat and Jeff were the primary contractors. My wife and I both work for a living and had
no problems opening up our home to them. A couple of times, early on, we came home and
saw something that we wanted to change.
When we talked to Zey about it, she indicated that Pat and Jeff had
stopped working in that area because they recommended the same change to her,
but did not want to proceed without our permission.
We came home every day to something better than what we had
imagined it would be. All of the
contractors made the required code changes as they went along and would always
check in for our permission if it would amount to any additional charges. Additional charges were minimal and were overall
for the better.
Great choice! Great people to work with! Highly recommended!

It took three tries to get them to come to my house for an estimate. The price to replace my shower enclosure was reasonable, but the installation was a bit of a nightmare. I believe the problem was with their contracted installer. During my first shower after the istall I discovered 6-8 cracks in the fiberglass (initially invisible to the naked eye). They sent a surface specialist who found an actual total of 12 cracks, and they said that it looked like the installers actually 'bent' the main/back panel during the install. I had the option to have the cracks fixed or a replacement. I didn't have another 3-4 days to take off work, so I opted for the repair job, which was guaranteed for the life of the unit. The repair is unnoticeable unless you know where to look and I had them come back for two cracks that were missed initially. I was initially very excited to have a fresh new bathroom and the problems almost ruined it for me, although it does look great now.
