The company doing my remodel noticed my sink was not put in correctly, so they had to reposition the entire cabinet to place my sink properly. To my surprise, the cabinet was hiding significant damage to the wall as well as improper wiring (see the attached picture). This is how Home Base placed my cabinet Aug. 2001. There was an exposed wire in front of the drywall in the corner and the cabinet butted up against it. There was also no cover on the wall plate, exposing all the wiring. Seems to me that would be a safety violation and possible fire hazard. I paid $3000.00 for this work and thought it would be quality and up to code. So, I went to Home Base in Lincoln Park to speak with Todd, the president of the company. He informed me that 20 years is a lifetime ago and that he would do nothing to reimburse me the extra cost of $628.00 I incurred to repair HIS company's damage and improper instillation. I advise everyone DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANY HOME IMPROVEMENTS!!! They do not stand behind their work.

Where do I start?  Owner, Todd, is difficult to get ahold of.  Never in when called and doesn't return calls. When you can talk to him,
Says he will get to it when current job they are working on is done.  Hasn't happened yet.
Am severe asthmatic and it was put in contract that there was to be no smoking on property.  They smoked and I ended up with a doctor visit.  They would hide it behind their back when they saw me.  I had to pick NUMEROUS butts out of my bushes, patio and grass. 
  No one ever introduced themselves, they just came and went whenever.  Did not like crew boss. Would not take any responsibility for errors (I understand they happen, but just fix them)  Sided over gas dryer vent and didn't even know it.  My dryer ran all night venting into the house.  Boss argued with another worker over who's fault it was. Not professional at all.
Many things were undone or left out.  Salesman wanted to come get money.  Inspection that he said he would do with me before I paid, was never done. After I said I wouldn't pay until they fixed things  a guy was sent out a week or so later.  He fixed all but one thing on the list.  I had planter boxes on the house before they started.  They threw away one set of brackets when they did teardown. I could only find replacements on line for 50$.  I have repeatedly tried to get them out to fix this. Just called 2 weeks ago and of course my message was never answered.  I even offered for them to give me $100.00 to hire someone else to do the job.  No response.   
Their ad says they accept credit cards but does not state that they charge extra for this service.  Should have been in the ad.
Too many crews doing too many different things at once.  JobTook forever.  They do multiple jobs  at once instead of completing one home before going on to another.
I would not nor will I recommend this company.

We?ve had nothing but trouble with it. The owner is so rude, and doesn?t even return your phone calls when you call to complain. They do the worst work I've ever seen! My shower cracked in a corner within 10 days of the job being done. He did come out 2x and try to putty it up, but it keeps on re-cracking. He says it's because it's an upstairs bathroom, yet I never had that problem in the past. He took out my copper pipes, and then my water was rusting as it comes out, he said it couldn't happen till I proved it. He did fix that. They were supposed to give me a 10 year workmanship warranty, but they won't ever return my calls so I've given up. It's the worst thing ever! The best advice I can give you is don't even build a dog house with them if you love your pets!

eremodelOriginally contacted Home Base in May 2014. Todd, the owner came out and looked at the job, explained what he proposed to do and said he would get back to me with an estimate. He was very upbeat, attentive and gave a great sales pitch. The estimate was emailed to me within a week.  I decided to go with his company and was told to come into the showroom to look at tile and faucets. I arranged to come in on a Saturday since I work weekdays. When I went to the shop the girl there answering phones was supposed to show me samples of subway tile, which was what I had indicated I wanted. There were no samples in the shop. She called Todd, the owner, and was told they must have been out. I had to make another appointment to come in during the week, after hours to meet with Todd to sign the contract and give a deposit. I went to Home Depot and brought a sample of subway tile. I asked if I could just get the tile myself, as other contractors had told me I could. Todd said 'NO", that I had to go with his tile since his tile installers were very good and would not work with "junk" from Home Depot. I said ok and signed the contract. He then told me he was backed up and it would probably be at least 6 weeks before he could get to my job. 8 weeks later after calling him back he said he would arrange to fit me in. I was told that my demo would start the following Monday am and my workman was Jeff. Monday am came and no one from Home Base showed up. I called the shop and was told by Todd that there had been a misunderstanding and Jeff would be there by the afternoon. The 2  man crew arrived and started the demo. They arrived on time after that. The workers were nice, professional but very slow. It took almost two weeks to  complete the job. When the tile arrived I was shocked to see the manufacture on the box said "made in China"  I was expecting Italian tile by the way  Todd described his product. The Home Depot tile was made in the  USA. I was not happy and let Todd know how I felt. He didn't seem very receptive to my complaint and proceeded to tell me that it was as  good a tile as any. (So my thought was, why didn't he let me get the Home Depot tile in the first place?) Mark up on his? Also, in the original estimate, he quoted demolishing the 3 other bathroom walls to the studs and re dry walling with greenboard. After removing the tiles the plaster walls were in good shape so a skim coat was all that was needed to repair them for priming and paint. (which by the was was NOT included in the estimate)  At the completion of the job I asked for a revision of the estimate since the walls  did not have to be taken out and the door and window casings did not have to be removed and replaced. He gave me another bill with "add ons" and only offered to take a $100 off the original bill,  It seemed to me that after clinching the sale and my signing the contract I became just another "client" to Todd and he was just interested in making a buck and not satisfying the customer. I called him a few times during this remodel and he didn't seem interested in my concerns. He doubled talked his way around my complaints. He finally agreed to take an additional $100 off my estimate which at that point I was tired of arguing with him and I accepted. I said I would pay the balance by credit card, the same method of payment I had used for the initial deposit and he then told me he would have to charge me an additional 2% service fee since that's what the credit card company charged him. Really? I told him I wasn't paying that and it was a cost of business.  All in all the work done was good, however, the tile guy took  forever. Like he was not all that experienced at tile work.My  only complaint was that the listello tile that was a decorative strip between the subway tile was crooked in places. Rather than have it removed and re installed I just accepted it as is.

The overall look turned out nice. There were several things that they said they would do in a certain way that they didn't. Later on, I discovered that one area. It was an inch or two and it was filled with spackle. I should have gotten down on my hands and knees and really looked at stuff. I wasn't really happy with the way they did some things. They didn't put the floor up high enough so they may have to anchor my toilet. They did a crappy job of caulking around to fill up the empty space. I didn't appreciate the way the attitude the guy has. The main guy who did it just had a really cocky attitude. Their professionalism is lousy because there are too many mistakes in there. it could have been done for a professional job.

I was happy with the service and the technician was kind enough to raise one of my gutters for me.

Good.  I have hired them to put on a new front porch this year.

I knew they did good work,they remodeled my kitchen. Small wait for items to come in(doors were stained to order.)

Had one minor problem when manufacturer made mistake on width of front window.But all the crews came in, worked quickly and efficiently.And did a great job. This winter we discovered one small corner piece of corner gutter was not replaced. We called and 2 days later it was fixed. They are very good at customer response.Very pleased with their work.

I hired Todd and his people to remodel our bathroom. This consisted of replacing: the toilet, floor, bathtub and ceiling vent fan.   When Mike from this company first came into my home he walked across my ivory carpet without removing his dirty greasy shoes.   The work that they did had to be reworked. Broken tiles (which they broke) on the wall had to be replaced. A miss cut floor tile had to be recut and replaced and instead of using grout on the floor they used silicone caulk. When removing the old toilet and putting in the new they cracked the wall tiles. The vanity back splash is bulging out.   After a couple of years the Kohler toilet started to make odd noises. I called Kohler and they thought they knew what the problem was so they sent me a floan insert. I also called Todd to let him know that Kohler was sending a new part which needed to be installed. Todd told me to call them when it came in. I called him and they installed the part a year later.   I am still having problems with the toilet. I called Todd and he started yelling at me and said that he was never going to accept another call from me.

We were very fortunate that the winter weather did not delay or disrupt the work schedule.  And as a result the remodel was completed ahead of schedule.  All the work crews were professional and courteous and very aware of the disruption to our daily living.  Each trade crew worked as a team when on site at the same time.  All additional cost issues were carefully explained before performed.  Home Base owner (Todd Dodson) was continually on site to assure that the work being done met our expectations.  He would periodically provide updates to the schedule and discuss and resolve all issues we had during the construction.  Although there was a significant amount of dust and mess, the workers cleaned up each day.  But I was a little disappointed as to the thoroughness.  As in most work sites of this type we needed a significant amount of cleaning after the job was complete.

They did a good job and were very curteous.

THEY DO A GREAT JOB. THEY SHOWED UP ON TIME TO MY HOUSE. THEY GAVE US A GREAT DEAL ON THE PRICE. THEY WERE VERY HARD WORKERS. THEY HAD THE JOB DONE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. WE WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH THE JOB THEY DID.

THEY WERE NOT A VERY GOOD COMPANY. THE SIDING IS BUCKLED AND I HAVE CALLED THEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD COME OUT AND FIX IT, BUT I HAVE YET TO SEE THEM.

THEY DID A GREAT JOB; THE ONLY THING THAT I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT THEM WAS THAT IT TOOK THEM A VERY LONG TIME TO GET THE BATHROOM FINISHED. MY BATHROOM LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A MAGAZINE.
