No premium rate was charged for Doug Montgomery to come out to my home, on a Sunday. He was professional and courteous. The work was completed in a timely fashion and he also gave me a list of 13 things to do before calling your HVAC professional. I would highly recommend Alert Heating and Cooling.

Our house is 105 years old and is rather unconventionally built, having been added on to multiple times over the course of its history. The portion of the basement with the furnace is stone foundation, with raw timbers supporting the subfloor instead of a sillplate and rim joist. The room with the unconnected heat register sits above a crawl space that was formerly outside of the original foundation, and can only be accessed by crawling through a small window opening from the basement portion. The furnace plenum was at capacity with heat runs, so there was not room to add the additional run upstairs and still have it sit above the A/C coil.
We got quotes from 4 contractors. Doug (owner of Alert) stood out when he came by because he carefully thought through every aspect of the project and engaged us in dicussing it. He noted the potential for complications at several points, whereas other contractors seemed not to notice, or at least did not mention it if they did. He did some calculations of duct sizing to ensure our supply and return run capacities were matched. No one else seemed too concerned with how to get the exhaust and intake vents through the stone and timber foundation to the outside, or mentioned the need to drop the A/C coil in the plenum, or spent much time considering how to thread the new heat runs up through the floor joists, timbers, and existing heat runs, which made for very tight spacing. Doug was with us for two hours, discussing the particulars of the project as he envisioned it and worked through it in his head. Other contractors seemed cavalier about things, by comparison, and were in and out in about 20 minutes.
The team that did the install (Joe and Chris) was very friendly and courteous, and got everything done in a very reasonable time frame. The install is clean-looking and effective, and we're quite happy with the results.

We had our furnace installed a week ago. We had problems programming the thermostat. Doug came out and programmed it for us. Great customer service.

I contacted Alert through Angie's list on a Friday night not expecting to hear back from anyone until Monday. I received a phone call Sunday morning. They were able to come out (on his day off). He looked at my air conditioning unit and quoted me the price for a new unit since mine was past the point of being fixed. He took the time to explain why it should not be serviced as well as showed me where the compressor was leaking from. He then explained to me what I needed as far as upgrades to my current duct work and did not try to replace everything like a previous quote I had.

Doug The manager from Alert, came out himself giving me the estimate. They removed, discarded and replaced my old 35 year furnace  (seemed like the old one was having to get repaired every year the last five years ) with a new high-efficiency  70,000 BTU twenty-year warranty on the heat exchanger, Ruud furnace. Removed the old humidifier that was partially rusted out, put in a lit and output that pipes to my east wall, put in a new chimney liner. Repaired the flue exhaust on my hot water tank that goes to the chimney. Put in a new condenser pump. Replaced the old dangerous dryer vent on my dryer with a safe four-inch metal vent for exhaust (also made it easy to remove for cleaning) . Received proper permits and Made sure everything related was meeting code. After the work was done.Doug came back out and inspected the work his employees did himself.  I was very pleased With the work and with the price. The first furnace is working great. One more thing,  a few days later I had smelled gas outside our home (this was on a Sunday) in the front ff my home where the meter reading takes place. Doug's team did not touch anything near that area as there was a gas shut off near to the furnace. However when I called him, Doug still came out right away to take a look. He diagnosed that he thought the regulator valve near the meter was leaking. Doug advised me to call the gas company right away and tell them it was an emergency. (He did not bill me for his time)  I did exactly what he advised and they came out within 30 minutes. Doug was right on target with his diagnosis,  The gas company had to immediately replace the gas valve regulator and electronic meter reader because they were leaking gas. I was very grateful to Doug. Alert is a good company and I would recommend them to anyone.

Doug is very personable, and I have been using his services for years now. He comes out every year to service my boiler and is incredibly knowledgable. He is always willing to come out and fix a problem, should one arise. If it was a result of his error, he doesn't charge extra. I can always count on Doug and we now know each other quite well.

The last time I paid them about $250. I found him to be very good. I really appreciate the service I get from him. He and his team came right out to address two different problems on two different occasions. I pay them by visit. I call them when I need them. They are very good about giving me suggestions for solving the problem. If it is a simple thing and if I call them, they will bail me out without them coming out. They respond promptly. They are knowledgeable and courteous. I have no complaints with them. They have been superb to deal with. I will continue to use them in the future.
