Technician arrived punctually and diagnosed issue. Part had to be ordered, so technician used temporary measures to ensure that we had heat until part could arrive. Once part arrived, they worked with our schedule to set up a final installation, and we were good to go. Communication was excellent throughout. Technician was pleasant and even friendly with our dog!

Total Comfort saved the day on my son's wedding day when we noticed a small flood in our basement and I realized by listening to the drip, discovered it was coming out of a hose connection leading from our furnace.

After identifying the problem, the mechanic told me that I would need to either have the heat exchanger replaced with another - that would develop the same problem - or replace the furnace altogether (it was about 9 years old when it stopped working).  He said that I might want to contact a Bryant dealer, since he believed there was some sort of cost reduction Bryant would provide against a new furnace for this problem.
I contacted a Bryant dealer, and when their serviceman come out, he confirmed what the Total Comfort guy said.  To replace the Bryant furnace with another, the cost was quoted as $5500, with a reduction of $500 for the exchanger problem.
The Total Comfort folks gave me a quote of $2400 to replace the furnace with a comparable Rheem, so I went with them.
They came out on a Monday morning to replace the furnace.  It turned out that the way the Bryant had been installed made it far more difficult to take it apart, install the new furnace, and reconnect everything.  It took them two days instead of the partial day originally anticipated, yet they charged me nothing additional for the extra time required.
They were prompt in scheduling, punctual in arriving, and professional throughout.   I highly recommend!!!

I called one day and the company representative arranged for the technician to come to my home the next day. The technician found a bad fuse and replaced it.While at the AC unit, he cleaned it, evaluated the system and fixed it at no charge to me!
This is a company that is all one can hope a business will be: honest, caring, responsive and professional.

I had a old furnace and ac that was not cooling the home enough. I called around and talked to Val and he spent quite some time on the phone to listen to my issues and made recommendations. He also came to my house and looked at the Furnace, AC and home layout and advised of a good replacement. He gave the estimate in one day that was competitive with my other estimates.
It was a two day job. On the second day of the job it rained a little and there was a lot of moisture in the air. Even though they could have completed the job the crew told me that it is not recommened to make the copper pipe connections when there is so much moisture in the air as it could corrode the pipes and reduce the life by a few years. So they came back on the third day to finish the job. The crew was very friendly and professional. When i went to see the work being done during my lunch hour they answered all my questions patiently and explained in detail how everything worked. I am pleased with their work and definately recommend them.

They sent someone out that afternoon to handle the service call as well as another person to gather information for the estimate. Both were incredibly professional and answered all of my questions as well as providing some useful suggestions for getting the most out of the current HVAC system. The house was built and 1949 and has the original furnace, so we are probably looking to replace the system within 3-6 months. Highly recommend.

We got them from Angie's List. It was us a minimum price for a call outside of normal business hours. They came out and figured out what the problem was. It was an issue with a plain censor and they took care of it right there. They were in and out within an hour. Everything was fine. They were just very professional. When they come in they put the little putties on their shoes to walk through your home. They were courteous. We would use them again.

It has been nine months since our new furnace and air conditioner has been installed and I would like to make some comments regarding our experience with Total Comfort Heating and Air (TCHand A). In making the decision to replace our old furnace and air-conditioner with high efficiency units, we used the Internet and other sources to find information on brands that have a high level of reliability and support. Rheem was one of those brands. We then asked firms that represented the brands with the better reputations to provide quotations for our new system. TCHand A was quotation was lower by 5 -10% than the others and Val, who provided the quote, spend more time then most in analyzing which system would best meet our needs. Since they had strong reviews on Angie's List and from other sources, we decided to use TCHand A. We were not disappointed. The installation team headed by Dan was top notch. The removal of the old system and the installation of the new system proceeded on the schedule as discussed earlier. No shortcuts were taken. When a piece of duct work they brought the job didn't quite match, it was discarded and a correct one fabricated. They were meticulous in the installation process and ndash; if there was a question whether an additional support bracket might or might not be needed, it was added; they took time to and ldquo;square offand rdquo; wires and lines giving the installation of a professional look; and left the area cleaner than they found it. They took time to explain all the features of our new furnace and its operation. After the insulation was completed, they came back a week later to ensure everything was functioning correctly and to address any other questions or concerns.Since the new system was installed in late fall, it was not possible to activate the air conditioner at that time. In the spring they came back and activated the air-conditioner and also checked to see entire system was functioning correctly. This company seems to go the extra mile to make sure its customers are satisfied. As an example, when we installed the furnace the Michigan Energy Rebate Program had exhausted its funds for high efficiency furnaces, and therefore, the credit not available to us. Later the rebate program received a new infusion of funds and it was available for those that installed furnaces earlier. We were not aware of this situation. TCHand A was aware of the new funds and informed us of the situation and took care of all the paperwork for us to apply for the rebate.Overall, we are quite happy with our new system. It is quieter and more efficient and it was installed by a company that takes pride in having satisfied customers and doing a professional job.

I'm satisfied with their service. They did a great job of installing my furnace. I have them come out once a year generally to take a look at and check things out. They have fixed minor things. The furnace works well. They are very easy to work with. When they come in once a year, they change the filters as needed. They don't always change the filters. If they think the filters need not to be changed, they won't change. They've not just added new filters here and there. They've told that I can get away with what I have and changed it the next time. I spend around $80 annually. It takes around 45 minutes sometimes to look at things carefully. The price is quite reasonable. I'm certainly not paying too much. The furnace and the air conditioner are excellent. The quality of service is very good. I'm very happy. When I call them, they come out. The people are honest and friendly. They don't try to push for additional services. They are very punctual. Sometimes they show up 15 minutes early. I would continue to use them in the future.

I contacted a few HVAC contractors for bids on a 95% efficient furnace ( 2 stage heat variable speed blower motor). Most suggested adding a chimney liner after removing the old furnace vent (to accommodate the remaining water heater). Val, at Total Comfort, spent time looking around the basement considering all the options, and he suggested replacing the water heater with a direct vent water heater, thereby avoiding the chimney liner issue altogether (as our chimney is over 80 years old). At first, we decided to go with the contractor who suggested the chimney liner approach (since this option did not involve the purchase of a new hot water heater), but after giving it some more thought, we decided to explore the new hot water heater option. When we priced new hot water heaters, Total Comfort's estimate of the combined hot water heater and furnace package could not be beat. (And, the night before the install, the old water heater started leaking, so timing could not have been more perfect.) When I asked Val if the hot water heater he was offering was eligible for the tax credit, the model he had quoted was eligible in 2010, but not in 2011. He called the dealer and located a model that was eligible for the 2011 credit at the same price! Val handled all the tax credit paperwork and even located an additional $500 in tax credits through an extended local credit I was unaware of. While Val did not provide an estimate at the time of the visit to my house, he did email the estimate a few hours after his visit. As it turned out, I preferred the email estimate, as when I had questions for him, I could easily refer to the estimate, even if I was at work. Dan, the installer, was very professional. He arrived on time each day, was considerate of the fact that I had pets, and cleaned up everything after he was finished. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the installation and the product. My house is much warmer now, even after we dropped the temperature on the thermostat to below 65 degrees! Professional installation, great service, and great price. What more could you ask for?!

These guys are very good and professional. They didn't leave a single mess or in fact any sign that they had been there other than we had a new furnace when they left. The only complaint we had was that the furnace was bigger after install and blocked the door to the room more than the old one. We strongly recommend using them for all of your heating and air.

I'd contacted several HVAC contractors for bids in March. I'd decided that I wanted a variable-speed efficient blower, and a 95% efficient furnace to take advantage of the tax credit incentives. At the time that I received my estimates, Rheem did not have a competitive unit. This was disappointing because, in looking at some of the HVAC blogs on the Internet, Rheem consistently gets higher ratings for reliability and general build quality. Consequently, I was vacillating between going with Carrier, even though they have some issues with inferior secondary heat exchanger materials and were 15% higher in price. Fortunately, during the week I was starting some reference checking, Val called me back from Total Comfort and said that Rheem was coming out with a variable-speed unit that met the 95% efficiency standards in June. So, I waited until the end of June, at which time they confirmed that the units would be available by early July. The new furnace, air conditioner compressor and coil, along with a new Rheem water heater were installed in mid-July. The installation crew was professional, and cleaned up the area. I only found one stray screw. The air conditioner is quiet. One benefit of the variable speed control is that the temperature balance is much nicer. The fan runs continuously at about 400 RPM which helps de-humidify and distribute the air; and it kicks up only moderately to about 900 RPM when the air conditioner is called for by the thermostat. You don't feel any drafts or notice any fluctuation in temperature; whereas on my old system, the blower would turn on high at this point, so that cooler drafts were noticeable when it ran and you could feel the house warm slightly before the thermostat called for more AC. At this time in mid-September, I haven't had to run the furnace, but it should save considerably over the old unit which was around 70% efficient. The only comment I can make so far on the furnace is anecdotal at best. I just received my bill from Consumers Energy for my natural gas, and its the lowest its been in three years. I know natural gas prices are going down, but I don't think this was reflected in the bill yet. My energy usage is slightly lower, and I attribute a major part of that to not having a pilot light consuming energy in the new furnace. Hey, its only a few bucks, but I expect I won't be seeing any $200 heating bills this winter either. Sorry for being so verbose, but my overall impression of the unit and contractor is very satisfied. In addition, since I have difficulty reading handwritten material, they converted their bids etc. into .pdf which is just an example of how these folks will go the extra mile.

Since I needed the water heater right away, they did that a day after I had Landis at my house for a quote. This work was done efficiently and effectively. I had them back after the weekend to install the furnace. They arrived on time and were respectful and professional. They removed all debris and explained the venting system and other features of the units installed. I am pleased with the work and glad to have seen them recommended on this list. I would recommend this company to others.
