It was a pleasure working with them and my countertops look awesome. They were very helpful in choosing the countertops and making recommendations regarding corners, edges, width of island, etc. Installation was done on time and went smoothly.

After going to specialty kitchen & bathroom showroom, I stopped in the Top Shop showroom & talked to Tim. He took time to listen to our needs & helped us make material selection for the counter top & sinks. We scheduled a time for him to take a measurement. He was on time & professional. He also gave me the name of a custom cabinet maker that he has worked with in the past. The vanity cabinet is very high quality & the cost was the same as an "off the shelf" cabinet! Tim & our cabinet maker coordinated their efforts to make a beautiful bathroom vanity for us.
We did use the other kitchen & bathroom showroom for the rest of our materials. I have no complaints with them either, other than a little higher price.

It has been a year since the installation, so some memories are uncertain. For instance, I can't recall the date of the job, or the cost. My wife and I recalled this job after I reviewed the work of another contractor who recently refinished our living room floor.
Several details remain fixed in our mind. The Top Shop is a small, family owned business. They sell, fabricate and install various types of counter tops. They work hard to provide a good product at a competitive price. They were helpful and patient in answering our many questions regarding the various types of material that are available.
If we had worked solely with the Top Shop, I believe we would have given them an A rating. However, when we were referred to Stone Specialists in Burton, and then on to the warehouse that supplied Stone Specialists, things became complicated. My wife had a very clear and specific idea of the type of granite she wanted - one that would compliment our new hardwood floor, and our natural hickory kitchen cabinets. We found what we were looking floor at the warehouse in the Detroit area.
The three companies simply did not talk to one another. The Detroit granite warehouse told us that they made weekly deliveries to Stone Specialists. We expected that in the next 2-3 weeks that we would learn when our counter tops would be ready for installation. But it was well over a month and still we had heard nothing.
We made calls to the Top Shop and Stone Specialists. That got the ball rolling. Within a month the counter tops were installed.
That was too long. If we needed to contact the Top Shop or Stone Specialists after we had selected the granite, no one told us to do so. No one explained the process. None of the three companies communicated with the others. If we had not acted we may have never had our counter tops installed.
We took the time and made the effort to talk in person to the Top Shop and Stone Specialists staff. My only message was that they needed to communicate better with one another. And explaining what had happened to us, I told them that they all needed to communicate better with one another and with us, their customers.
Rather than hearing that message, they rather blamed "the other guy" for the problems, this was especially true of Stone Specialists. I don't know if they heeded our advice or not. I hope they did and started to address the issues we raised. If not, customers may be forced to deal with the problem we encountered.
We now enjoy beautiful granite counter tops that compliment our hardwood floor and our natural hickory cabinets. But do the a complete lack of communication between these three companies we endured a long and frustrating wait to enjoy our purchase.

Jeff arrived on appointed day. He had made the base in the shop, but needed to finish in the house since the house is old and everything not particularly square. The plumber came and installed the sink. By 6 p.m. the work was done and the kitchen back in running order. The kitchen looks wonderful. He rounded corners and gave the counter top a very professional look.

When you go there you go toStone Specialists in Burton, MI to order the granite. They installed it. When it was installed the seams were terrible, uneven and they just stood out. Contacted The Top Shop to say we weren't happy. Had to make quite a few calls to the Top Shop, they came out and looked and it and said it isn't that bad and we have a customer a few door down and their seam is worse than yours and they are happy. We had contacted another installed and he said it really was unacceptable. So after multiple phone calls we had multiple visits from the Stone Specialist, time lost from work to determine they couldn't fix it. The Top Shop seemed unresponsive and just not trying to make the customer happy. Arguing with us about the seams. Finally someone from Petoskey came down to fix the seams they look fine now. We contacted the Top Shop and they came to look at them and handed us the remaining bill with no money discounted for all the problems we incurred. Not even $50.00 off. We went with this company thinking it is a family owned company from in town and that is what we would want to support. Never again.

It went very well. The actual granite that we picked out was in another city it would have been more efficient if we could have just gone to the shop to look at granite choices. We think the counter tops are beautiful and happy with result.

The process of selecting, measuring, crafting and installing countertops does involve about six weeks. It is important that the buyer is prepared to start early enough to meet any specific deadlines.
Two years ago we attended two home shows bringing with us photos, basic drawings and gross measurements which we copied and provided to each of seven vendors to quote. The Top Shop provided the best price, showed the most interest in doing our project and was easy to communicate with.
We delayed "pulling the trigger" on this important purchase until October 2011. Once we selected granite from Stone Specialists in Burton, MI, the rest was straightforward. We were scheduled, the Top Shop measured and reviewed the "tear out;" one day was scheduled for the time consuming measurements and template photography which is an interesting process in itself. From that point it took about three weeks to prepare the stone for installation. Once "tear out" and installation begin we found it convenient to eat out rather than work around the construction.
On December 2 the Top Shop began the "tear out" removing the surfaces scheduled for replacement. In all eleven sinks had to be removed and reinstalled. At first we were going to hire a plumber to the work, but the six quotes were really high. I was convinced I could do all of the removal and reinstallation myself and did so successfully. On December 5 the installers arrived about 8:30 am, and installed the granite in two bathrooms, the laundry room and bar area. On the 5th and 6th I reinstalled sinks. On December 7 the kitchen and one bath were installed. The kitchen was equipped with an under mount sink which was installed by the granite installers.
On the 7th I reinstalled the bath sinks but waited 24 hours before connecting the kitchen sink, garbage disposal and drains; it is necessary to let
The construction involved four specific granite selections. One was a remnant which provided a good price. From beginning to end the Top Shop (Anthony, Geoff and Tim) was great to work with. The people at Stone Specialists were helpful, creative and professional. The installers laid down canvas throughout the house, worked steadily without a lunch break, were careful and cautious throughout. Once the installation was completed all refuse was removed and taken away by either the Top Shop or the installers. We were able to salvage three counters from the "tear out" which will become garage work surfaces at our cottage.

They were very customer oriented, friendly and very professional. They did excellent work. I got new appliances after the counter tops and they still didn't slide in very well so they came back free of charge a month later and trimmed the counter top and made sure the stove fit. They were very happy to do that. It was great that they were willing to come out, it was nothing to do with their counter tops or service. We really liked working with them.

Geoff Toune of The top Shop came to our house to measure for an estimate, and had an estimate back to us within a week and a half.
We stopped by their store to ask questions numerious times, and they were always friendly and willing to answer our questions and make suggestions.
We selected them to tear out the existing counter tops in our kitchen and install new laminate counter tops. They arrived a 9:30 am the day they were scheduled to arrive. Tim was very professional and worked until 3:30 pm. The counter tops fit perfectly and look great. When he finished he cleaned up completely. He did a wounderful job and was very polite during the time he was in our house. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for new counter tops.

Called this company after reading member reviews on Angie's list. I talked with Geoff in early June about replacing the countertop in our rental house. I met Geoff at the house on June 3 to measure the area. At that time, I selected the laminate surface, which was a high-definition laminate, and paid a 50% deposit. Total cost for the countertop and installation was $750. He scheduled the work, from the house, for June 13.
When ordering the countertop, I was asked if I had a plumber to disconnect the water lines and remove the sink. I did not, so he recommend a company that they use frequently. I said that it was fine to use that company. So, Geoff arranged for the plumber to arrive an hour early to remove the sink and disconnect the water lines. He estimated the cost of the disconnect at $300, which was an additional charge.
On installation day, the plumber arrived on time and promptly disconnected the water lines and removed the sink. Since, I had the plumber captive, I had him replace the the faucet and snake a bathroom drain. The plumber also reworked with PVC drain under the sink and installed a small vent stack. The only extra cost was for snaking the drain - all the other work was included in the original disconnect estimate of $300.
Geoff and partner arrived on-time to replace the countertop. It took 2 hours and there were no problems. The old counter top was removed. The new countertop is beautiful! The renter is very pleased..

This was a wonderful experience and a great company to work with! This is a family owned business and the service is exceptional. They had great communication and both the guy that did the measuring and the guys that did the installation were great! I cannot say enough good things about them.
