Computer Repair
How did it go? Not well.
On day three Jason contacted me to say the computer was fixed and working with greatly improved speed. He said that about 40 different programs were removed from the Start-UP. They were still available for use, but but would not be loaded at start up. In particular one program, a Western Digital backup program seemed to be doing most of the hogging of resources. He said all was well.The tech at the center did plug in the pc for me and booted it. It was at a right angle to me and I was not looking directly at the screen. All seemed well and I took it home. Set it up at home and it was running faster and seemed to be ok except for one issue. My 23 three inch display was not only displaying 21 inches. Diagonal measure. I called the store and spoke with Scott, he said yes it noticed that too, but hadn't said anything as he wasn't sure it was not the way it was supposed to work. Jason was not available for discussion and I was told to bring it back as it was too complicated to advise me over the phone to make any adjustments. Computer returned and I was called two days later saying that the only was to fix the computer was to reinstall the operating system. Frankly I think that is the easy way out for a tech. Not only was that the only fix they knew but it was going to cost me an additional $60.00 to install the system. That was to fix a problem that as far as I am concerned, they created. Discussion with the assistant store manager revealed that Jason told him that "there were underlying problems with my pc" . Jason just told me it was fixed. I feel that Jason lied to me by omission of "underlying problems". I felt the store had some culpability with creating the problem and certainly should have been more reasonable with the additional charge. Actually I don't think they should have charged me. It wasn't broke (at least the display wasn't broke) when I took it too them. He did not want to make any price adjustment. I spent almost $2,000.00 there during the last two months. Guess how much i am going to spend this year. I think there are more competent repair centers available. I took it to them as it was nearby. Not again.
