Palmer Construction

Palmer's entire team is professional, punctual, and responsive. We renovated a kitchen and doubled the footprint. A wall that was to be removed was not initially felt to be load bearing. Upon opening the walls it became apparent that it was indeed bearing. Palmer worked quickly with our architect and an engineer to find a solution. The remedy required pouring a footing in the basement, a new post in the basement, and three LVL beams in the kitchen ceiling. All of this work added to the budget but hardly set back the schedule. Palmer is willing to work with a hands-on / DIY homeowner as well. I was able to do the demolition, build and install the cabinetry, do the tile work, and painting myself in order to save some money. Palmer was always available to answer questions and made sure that work I did was correct. Dan Smeak was our project manager and Dale (?surname) was our onsite foreman. Both are the epitome of professional. They were willing to listen when I noticed things that were not to my liking as the project progressed and corrected them very quickly. For instance, I asked them to raise a window so that two windows were level as opposed to the same distance from the floor (old house, uneven floor), and they did it the next day. They organized the subcontractors well and when we had issues with work of the subs they remedied it. Efficient and quality work. Had 3 layers and when they got them all off the original planking was underneath, so they had to add plywood decking. Added cost but was needed to be up to code.

Our experience with Palmer was excellent. Dan Smeak was knowledgeable, efficient and professional from the initial consultation and inspection of our old roof, to providing information about roofing options through scheduling the job. The installation went very, very well, with the whole roof being completed in just one day. The work site was cleaned up completely after the project was done. Wonderful work.

The job was done perfectly. The company is very conscientious and is characterized by extreme professionalism and excellent work. Further, the owner and his staff are very professional and available. They sent multiple supervisors to check on the work while in progress and after completion to make sure it was done correctly. I am extremely pleased in their work and for roofing would not call any other contractor (in the future) in the Lansing area. I give them a rating of 10 out of 10 with ten being the highest possible rating.

Everything went OK with the gutter guards and gutters. However, the attic insulation was a disappointment. I have moisture problems in the attic and made it very clear that I wanted baffles installed and was generally worried about having proper ventilation in the attic. The person who did the attic did an OK job insulating everything with blow-in insulation, BUT the baffles were not installed well and are clearly plugged with insulation. I don't know if they were just hoping I wouldn't be able to check easily, or what. Anyway, the soffit vents have been rendered useless -- I'll have to pay someone else who cares more to come out and properly install baffles/build boxes to keep the insulation off of the soffit vents. My C grade is A for the gutters + D for the attic insulation.

Palmer provided a thorough evaluation of the situation. Recommended a conservative option which I agreed to. Was a little hard to reconnect with them (maybe because this was a small job in the middle of the busy season). But once scheduled, they did a great job.

We have not heard from this company again. This is not professional at all.!!!

I am very satisfied with Palmer's construction roofing job and would hire them again. The price included replacement of a chimney cap also. They were not the cheapest bid, but within a reasonable range and did give me an Angie's list discount. I felt confident in hiring them based on their reviews and how thorough Andy was in covering the details of what they would do. He also took before and after pictures, which was helpful in seeing where there was problem areas. The crew arrived on time and I was amazed that they completed the job in 1 day. This involved stripping off two layers of shingles, installing a ridge vent, and removing multiple roof vents, and installing a new layer of shingles. The cost was for a 1200 square foot ranch (not the detached garage). They cleaned up the debris and took care to protect plants and any items that would be at risk of damage. Very professional.

Punctual, professional. Answered all questions posed. While I'm ultimately choosing another vendor, it was based on price and family recommendation.

Quick response to request for estimate. Personal visit with estimate and samples less than 5 days later. Provided all documentation. Called before scheduled date start to go over plans again. Came out with "crew" on Day 1 and walked through project. Along with workers, there were trucks and a dumpster. Everything that was to be trash was removed and taken away at the end of the first day. All materials and equipment were carefully and safely stored each night. They cleaned up every day. Workers stayed on task, would answer questions if approached. They were excellent, hard working young men who were perfectionists with measuring, their task/talents and with clean up. The job was finished on time as scheduled. Would definitely use Palmer again, or anyone they would recommend if it was a job they can't or wouldn't take on.

We were fit into their already busy schedule for an estimate, which I very much appreciated (we are a previous customer). While Palmer's provided a competitive quote, we opted for another company who could get the work done quicker (and was a bit cheaper) as time of was the essence. However, that being said, from previous experience I would not of hesitated to use Palmer Construction again as I know they perform outstanding quality work and are very attentive to any questions/concerns.

From the nice lady on the phone, Bill the estimator, Dale the project manager to every single crew member who worked on this project, they all have shown great professionalism handling this roofing job from A to Z. The roof looks great and they finished the job in 2 days. They cleaned everything and left me with a very nice roof that is almost a piece of art! Thank you Palmer team! I am definitely going to do more business with you in the future!

Dan and the gang at Palmer are fantastic. Totally professional, reliable (which is rare for a contractor) and they do quality work. We had every window in the house replaced. Dan took the time to show us all of the potential windows we could use and we ended up going with a wood/fiberglass window that is solid and looks great. They had to do a lot of custom trim work for each window that ended up looking even better than it did before they got there. They did a great job with the siding and made our chimney look brand new. I won't hesitate to call them next time we need some work done.

They returned my call. They came out, they stayed in touch, and they explained things to me. They got the job done in one day. I paid them, and it was good. I would use them again.

They are local and they came right away. They work with professional contractors who all showed up on time. They did a good job and arrived on time. I was pleased with the service and the company.

From the initial visit for inspection and estimate, the Palmer folks were A+. They work with near military precision. We were fully informed of dates of work, the process, everything. The crew chiefs introduced themselves and were always available for questions etc. The work was completed in a day, but the Palmer folks came out twice more, just to inspect their own work. One tiny detail that I would never have detected didn't meet their standards so they redid it. Completely. The total cost was exactly what they estimated, which by the way, was the lowest bid of all the major contractors we asked to give estimates. Extremely pleased with the process and the work. Palmer will be my first choice for any construction work I might need on my home.

The work crew showed up at 8am and by 430 pm the job was completed.The whole crew was completely professional.We are very happy with the work done.We recommend Palmer Construction to anyone considering a roofing job,they do good work.

They were very good about replacing them and getting the work done. However, it was rather rainy for some time so it took a little while. As far as I can tell the work was very good. They were very prompt and they came when they said they would. If they couldn't come they would let me know. The only thing I would say is that I didn't feel I got all the information that I should have gotten. It wasn't much it was just a few tiny things. For someone considering using them, if they remove a satellite dish it becomes the owners responsibility to re install the equipment. They did a really good job setting up financing for the work.

Showed us several examples, house addresses so we could pick the right color combination for our home. Kept us in the loop. Very timely, got everything done in 2 days and very clean. We're very happy.

I called and described the job. Since it was a straight forward job they were able to give me a quote by phone. We scheduled the work for the following week and they completed the work on the day it was scheduled. They installed 2 insulated ducts and 2 covered caps on the roof. I happened to have other workers in later in the week, (one in the attic and a roofer) for other jobs and they both confirmed that the job was well done. I appreciated that it is possible to get a quality construction company to do small jobs in a timely fashion. I have asked for quotes on two other jobs.
