Lawn Service
Steven Copp promptly came to assess the site. Told me 5" steel edging was not available, but 4" was. Suggested I consider 4" aluminum instead because it had connectors available that fit over adjacent edging sections to keep them aligned better and would provide a safer finish on the ends of edging runs. He quoted a higher material price for aluminum than steel. Based on the representation that the aluminum edging would be installed with the described overlapping connector, I selected the more costly aluminum product. Installers were here in a couple days. They asked me after installing the first two sections whether I was satisfied with the installation. The connection between those first two pieces was as represented (see 1st photo). Unfortunately, after the work was complete and paid for and I was looking closely at the rest of the job, I found that only one other join in the 580 feet of edging was installed as it was represented that it would be. All the rest (20 of them) used a stake driven through prongs in the back of the edging (just like the less expensive steel edge would have been installed), and the edging sections were, for the most part poorly aligned. Copp's response to my complaint was that the installation method used was necessary to keep the pieces properly aligned (the selling point he'd made about the OTHER connector) and that he was not going to reinstall the edging . If it was necessary for alignment, why did the join I was asked to inspect use the connector that bridges the top of the sections? (Take a look at the last four photos below and see if you think those sections are "properly aligned".) I later found that the Lawnscapes installers had driven the edging through a drain tile and hadn't bothered to let me know. I had no response to my message notifying Copp of the damage, which cost $100 to repair.
